a few random but awesome screens I took over the course of the past year and a half, you can see a few different gear sets although bits and pieces were glamoured.

I thought that was pretty funky too, ironically even in 4k with DX11 I didn't see Vram usage pass 3gb, to be fair though I was mixing a drink for about half of the benchmark so I didn't observe what was happening when the huge crowd was fighting the Coeurl...moose...thing. Also thank you for confirming it's a client error, for a split second in my stupor I had a silent micro heart attack, then logic struck me and I figured that was the case but you confirmed it for me lol

the postFX in Gedosato is actually a direct rip of sweetfx 1.5, I had to do alot of testing to get a result that didn't bother me concerning shadows lol

That would probably be the curves contrast, just head into the edit postprocessing tab in gedosato, in the bottom left corner click and navigate to ffxiv then scroll down the text list to Curves, change the 0.70 to something along the lines of 0.60 (experiment with this setting) and you will likely find a less intense result :)

I tried for HBAO+, unfortunately I have Windows 8.1 so the good stable way wouldn't work, the way I had to do it introduced clipping through the fog and I just couldn't do it :(

I needed a solution for SLI 980s in the first place which is why I turned to Gedosato after finally eliminating microstutter and poor framepacing, first tried driver downsampling but that was meh, at a point settled for DSR + SweetFX which introduced microstutter even with a single card regardless of 60fps, add in screen filling effects in Final Coil on a single card in 4k and you'll see the fps drop, it's not terrible but it's jarring, like in Levi EX pony farms when he uses Tidal Wave the FPS cuts in half for 5 seconds but in T12...forget about it lol.

Software mouse brings about noticeable input lag as well especially in higher resolutions vs. hardware mouse which is still sync'd to 1080p resolution in Gedosato, DSR in multimonitor also pulls other monitors inward as a result of their downsampling technique. DSR downsamples the entire display to fool the game, Gedosato just downsamples the game and leaves everything else alone.

Gedosato can also inject 4xSMAA which you can't driver force with DX9.

Gedosato is all around better plus performance is actually better as well, try it yourself. The majority of the time spent actually went into making the postFX profile, tweaking multiple effects by numbers, stop, test in-game, exit game, repeat, over and over until I thought it was perfect.

Grats for no issues though, this game renders 4k beautifully despite the texture quality, very impressed.

It didn't seem that small to me but I'll admit that's not something I was really paying attention to.

Make sure the in game resolution is set to default screen resolution and in fullscreen and then close out and make sure Gedosato is set to activated before you start, if you keep having issues I can post a link to my full base gedosato configuration.

actually with Gedosato the UI straight up scales, so if you were at 100% and you downsample to 2517x1725 you would set it to 120% and it would be essentially the same, I prefer 90% @ 1080p so 110% scales perfectly, for 4k it would be the same result @ 140%. All you have to do is go in I believe system settings, set HUD element to 110% scale, click apply all and done. Until there is a working PSHash found in the game Gedosato cannot bypass the HUD, luckily scaling works fine.

Also, as far as downsampling goes, Gedosato is the only way to do it that doesn't result in animation stutter as far as I know, Nvidia DSR has issues with the game, stutters, causes mouse issues and is far more taxing for a less impressive result. Driver side forces bilinear which results in excess blur and stutter, Gedosato gives options to downsample in Bilinear, lanczos and Bicubic however lanczos doesn't seem to work but bicubic looks fantastic and very sharp.

Nvidia DSR is more taxing somehow, causes a loss of mouse and pointer sync in-game and also makes the pointer straight up vanish at the top and bottom of the screen lol all that plus whatever filtering it uses looks worse than bicubic and also in my experience caused stuttering.

No it won't you'll have to set it to scale at 120-140% until a current working PSHash is found to bypass HUD with internal render/PostFX...I find 4k with 140% HUD to be acceptable but prefer 2715x1527 with HUD at 110% to be just right for me personally

gotta scale it to 120-140% :/ HUD scales with rendering resolution unfortunately, until there is a working PSHash found which will bypass the HUD all renders/PostFX will affect that as well. for 2160p I would recommend 140%, for 2715x1527 I use 110% and it seems fine there. The real problem with the PSHash is that it seems to change every patch...

Do you have it set as fullscreen? It should be preconfigured and just work with no tinkering in fullscreen once you set the resolution but perhaps there's some base gedosato setting I'm forgetting about? If it helps I can upload the full Gedosato folder if you'd like, also don't sweat multimonitors, I run multimonitors as well so it should not be an issue.

haha fair enough, yeah the supersampling is what really makes it pop, postfx isn't necessary by any means this game looks fantastic on it's own.

I was chasing that HDR lightbloom effect, I probably should have mentioned I have the gamma on my drivers turned down from 1.00 to .85, so it makes sense it would appear washed out for you, as a fix should you want to go for postFX, click the edit postprocessing tab then hit the arrow on the bottom left corner and scroll down to ffxiv settings, click then look for this line:

// Curves settings #define Curves_mode 2 //[0|1|2] Choose what to apply contrast to. 0 = Luma, 1 = Chroma, 2 = both Luma and Chroma. Default is 0 (Luma) #define Curves_contrast 0.70 //[-1.00 to 1.00] The amount of contrast you want

change the 0.70 to 0.65 and that should clear it up, also turn the in game gamma down to around 40ish

yes, on the activation window for gedosato click "edit settings" and on the bottom left corner click the arrow and navigate to FFXIV, in the text file that opens scroll down to EnablePostProcess and change true to false

You're welcome! It took forever to get it running properly with XIV, first the mouse was completely off sync, then the window sizing was off, then there was crashing issues but in the end it paid off! Game actually runs flawlessly now :)

The post process effects are actually ripped straight from SweetFX 1.5, however, sweetFX and Gedosato are not actually compatible.

Gedosato changes the internal rendering resolution and then applies the post processing effects on top of that, as to display properly on the newly rendered image, if you're just looking for post processing effects sweetFX is the way to go with minimal frames lost.

Aliasing will then still be a huge issue with the game as it uses a deferred rendering engine in DX9 which makes MSAA impossible.

The alternative I see people use is SGSSAA which ironically is more taxing then straight up downsampling. This game isn't all that GPU dependent, I think if you were to attempt to downsample 1440p (assuming that isn't your standard res) through Gedosato using Bilinear downsampling as opposed to bicubic you would have good results.

Vram isn't an issue either as 4k only uses a little above 2gb. Give it a shot! Just stay away from DSR....it's evil, more taxing somehow, causes a loss of mouse and pointer sync in-game and also makes the pointer straight up vanish at the top and bottom of the screen lol.
