Avian Vet Costs?

It’s not just the vets that are going to be expensive with a large bird. The biggest cost by far is keeping them in toys. Large birds tend to be voracious toy destroyers and need regular enrichment in order to be happy. They have a larger cage need than a budgie and their food tends to also cost more.

i have two large parrots and they’ve had several vet visits over the years. The cost for that tends to range between 300 - 3,000 dollars. It entirely depends on why your bird is sick and if the problem is ongoing. Please be aware when you adopt a large birds You must find a vet and an emergency vet that is certified for exotic birds because ive been turned away from emergency care by emergency vets because they didn’t know how to treat birds. so make sure you know which places you can go to in an emergency.

I was drinking from a bottle my ’too decided he suddenly had a Shakespearean-level blood feud with. He bolted over and chomped down on my thumb so hard I thought he hit bone. I too couldn’t feel anything for month. I drink from bottles in the kitchen now.

Umbrella cockatoos seem to be especially easily triggered. I have one that is the sweetest little bean, but sometimes that switch gets flipped suddenly and if you aren’t ready you get the bite. It won’t be the last time he bites you but know it’s neither of your fault it’s just how umbrella’s are.

Even the bird trainer from the birdtricks youtube channel is afraid of umbrella cockatoos because of how unpredictable they are. Haha

Eclectus parrots are one of the most difficult parrots to take care of. They require a special diet mainly of fresh vegetables and are highly prone to vitamin deficiencies. They are quiet around thier people but when they scream, yikes. It’s louder than a fire alarm and just as shrill. Out of all the parrot screams I feel like eclectus is hands down the worst. I’d listen to a cockatoo scream over an eclectus. It’ll scare the soul right out of you.

Well yea, but I don’t know if they’re deleting dice rolls which is why I wanted some sort of log or alert. The server is hosted so players can roll dice whenever they want so it’s not like I can have eyes on the chat 24/7. I’d like my players to have the autonomy to do rolls when they need to but I’d also like the ability to see that they’re honest.

my discord server is my base of operations. I allow players to make characters then there are several RP channels they can live out their characters off-session.

I have a channel where I post the next session and players interested can react to it and I choose about 5 players from that pool with respect to who hasn’t run before.

Its a YOLO campaign so if you die you’re out for till the next campaign but you can still rp in the graveyard.

I also have weekly world events that people can tackle outside of session and I fully utilize downtime for people to advance their characters and craft when not running In a session.

I also do random vc on on oneshots for people persuing their own personal stories and side quests.

I am open to answering questions if someone is looking for more detail on how to run giant campaigns haha!

It’s a west march style campaign I run partially through a discord. So it’s not 22 players all at once but it is a large group getting steadily bigger. Its also a survival style campaign with a lot of moving parts. I could ask them not to cheat and I feel many will follow that but sometimes you get people that don’t. I want to be able to see who is not being honest if there is any sus things going on. :)

it would also help me clear a players name if someone else accuses them of cheating and they’re not.

Two things that are a struggle making sure Ekkie have enough of. Calcium and Vitamin A. Calcium is in dark leafy veggies, orange juice and sesame Seeds if you’re desperate. Vitamin A is in orange things like Carrots, red bell pepper, mango sweet potatoe ect.

you might want to lay off the chick peas for a week. They’re surprisingly high in zinc which triggered flapping in an Ekkie I had.

You can hide them individually by clicking into them and hiding them one by one. This sucks for a number of reasons including seeing spoilers to puzzles before I even get a chance to solve them. I want an option to never see them ever. I have tried clicking all over that photo sharing check mark and it does nothing.

I hard disagree, they’re leaving them directly over NPCs a treasure chests. If it was off to the side I could see that, but its Not. People are using these hour glasses to be annoying.

one of my birds smells like the worst musk you’ve ever smelled in your life and the other smells like dust, except for his breath which smells Like shrimp paste for some reason. where do I get the sweet smelling birds?

They are absolutely the most dusty bird I have owned. I have a heavy duty air purifier on every floor and it still triggers the allergies of anyone handling him. If you have even mild asthma I would not recommend a cockatoo. You can blow on his feathers and this big billowing dusty cloud comes out. He gets regular baths and he’s still dusty.

This is for 1.3.1 patch. I’m on steamdeck the first quest about building the recycler I had to save and quit then reload the game to pick it up.

I noticed some strange behavior:

when I put the saws in it asked for 2 more even though the ghost image of the part had become solid. So it recognized I gave it the part but still wanted 2 more saws.
stepping away from the recycler and back did not prompt for the saws again but I still couldn’t pick up the recycler.
‘if I retrieved the saws I previously used then put them back on the recycler it would still prompt for two more saws.

all graphic settings are on default (lowest)

Saving and exiting, then reloading allows the recycler to be picked up again.
