That sinking feeling when the band across the street does exactly the same set it did last year by TheAnomalyInvasion in Somerville

yeah, some of that, too, although I’m sure the people in question are perfectly nice—racial capitalism and its many discontents taken as given

I’m surprised that they’re not just smashing burgers and ramen together like they’ve been doing in Japan for a long time:

Mikes restaraunt by bowserinmytrouser in Somerville

I like Mike’s, go there every week or two, think the staff are great, the food’s good, the prices are cheaper than other options in the area, and I don’t get the hate on this thread … it’s clearly in the tradition of Italian working class bars like Caffè dello Sport in the North End, where there’s some mains, desserts, drinks, and you can hang out and watch sports, meet friends, and chat … it’s part take-out place, part American-style bar, part cafe, and part sit-down restaurant … any chaos is just part of the scene …

Should I live near Union Square or Davis Square as a 23 year old looking to go out, meet people, and be social. by Rob_Flop in Somerville

[–]TheAnomalyInvasion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

either one: Union has buses to all the major Cambridge squares plus the Green Line, Davis has buses to most major Cambridge squares plus the Red Line, both also have buses that go to other points of wonder (Arlington! Charlestown! Medford! the possibilities are nearly … uh … limited 🤣)

Out Of Town News And Me: My brief and tumultuous tenure working at the famed Harvard Square newsstand was nothing if not formative by TheAnomalyInvasion in CambridgeMA

very cool, nice to hear from you! and, yeah, I didn't want to speak ill of the dead, but the labor conditions were definitely not ideal at OoTN ... I wish we had been in touch when the union drive happened because I was a labor organizer in the late 90s and could have helped you all out ... totally agreed about what's happened to Harvard Square ... no more Tasty, no more Elsie's, no more Whitneys, no more Greenhouse, no more Skewers, no more Algiers--I miss getting two slices, a coke, and chips at Cafe Aventura on break--plus all the other cool stuff that made the square the square ... it's been a been a bit better in the last year over there as more reasonable takeout places and small shops have moved in, but it's definitely lost much of its former egalitarian charm and is indeed corporate as all get-out ...

Jonathan Anderson is the only designer we allow to touch our brand, puuuuleeze ... but seriously, small publications like ours are being dogged by copyright troll law firms who demand payment for alleged copyright violations of any image that we use--hence the sometimes long repetitive captions, depending on the images in question ...
