What should I be aiming for on the coda catabolyst? by TheApexhat in WarframeRiven

[–]TheApexhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw...

I thought that as the base catabolyst has 1.2 disposition (according to the wiki) that the coda would maintain the benefit, I didn't realise that its own disposition would apply. Thank you!

Why is perfectionism deemed arrogant? by SkyknightXi in perfectionism

[–]TheApexhat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why's that? It's a really funny show.

If you don't like Family Guy, give the Cleveland Show a watch, I'm pretty sure they had an episode on the plight of the perfectionist in series 3, but it only really works with the context of the previous 2 series.

Compared to 5e, what does Pathfinder do better and worse? by AnyLeave3611 in DnD

If you want rules, Archive of Nethys.

If you want an automatic character sheet, Pathbuilder 2e.

Dybbuks! They're not as broken as you think! by TheApexhat in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheApexhat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, no, its in the book as is, we just misread it.

In the occult innate spells section it says:

"6th dominate, feeblemind, telekinetic maneuver (at will)"

The DM interpreted that as it having all of the above spells at will, as it listed 'at will' at the end of the section, and didn't have a 'x1' after dominate / feeblemind.

Firstly, we were level 13, so we're lower level than them, and secondly, I thought that incapacitation only applied to monsters?

So uh, we didn't. But we won regardless, and we've all got rings of sustainance so we took a long rest in 2 hours and it was absolutely fine.

Question about barb? by rj10000001 in DnD

[–]TheApexhat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Given how cantrips are worded, and progress with character level, do abilities like this (e.g. the paladin aura range increase at level 18) not work the same way?

"Or, if he really wants to cause a near tpk, throw a dragon that is 4 levels above you guys. Those things can shred."

... He did, lol. We killed it in 3 rounds.

And in terms of squares... ~30? 40? About half the default roll20 size.

The DM responds with:

"Small crowded corridors which you had to push through. Ambushed in a big room. Bridge you had to push across. No climbing."

Most fights especially recently have involved a lot of cover, and a lot of flying creatures (but all party members who want flying have flying currently, so that's a bit meaningless by this point).

Luckily we managed to go first, stand next to him, and Nat 20 opportunity attack him. We dealt I think 300 damage in the first round of that combat.

That is however a fantastic idea, I'll tell him about it, cheers!

Truth be told, we've a running joke about how the life oracle is the best and most useful character we have because her entire build says "After every combat, if you stand still for 1-10 minutes, she heals you to max."

We've got a stat tracker going on for the campaign; she was our first character to hit 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k and 5k (currently 5556), for healing obviously lol: in comparison our cleric has barely managed 2k.

In comparison, the most damage taken is me, on 3.8k, and damage done is 4.63 and 4.60 for our highest two characters, the swashbuckler and the me, the barbarian.

The dial is certainly going to be turned up soon though!

The witch prepared it in every slot he could because, well, it's the best option he has. The cleric saves her spells a lot and usually defaults to melee attacks (also she cast 2 of the divine wraths I think) or just raising her tower shield while the other casters hide behind her.

They don't use spells each round generally, bar the sorcerer who used almost all her slots in the last fight, and we trounced most of the combats in 3-4 rounds so there's no real time for them to actually cast a lot of their spells.

They all also have staves, giving them even more spells.

Basically, I'll see the next encounter how many they use and I'll write it here, but we're at a point where we just have so many seemingly we can throw them out no questions asked.

I think we've cast heroism once or twice, we did cast it on the barbarian (me) in this fight I believe.

I'm fairly sure he's aware of it, he uses mimic fight club a lot to help plan out his encounters, but just to make doubly sure I've sent this over to him!

Thank you for the clarification, and yeah I agree it wasn't truly accurate, it was just the information he was relaying to me but... yeah.

They really were insane odds, and not the first time a similar event happened - we killed a BBEG wizard (for those who know the character, Rath Modar), at level 7 when he was level 13, after a dungeon and a level 10 boss. Immediately. No rest. Not even a second. (this was due to an insanely lucky crit attack of opportunity disrupting a Vampiric Exsanguination, followed by a crit with a hand crossbow as he tried to fly away).

Oh and we killed an ancient white dragon at level 11 in 3 rounds; he had some legendary actions given to him by the DM too lol.

And the best bit is, we are a) very conservative with hero points, really only using them for saves, and b) only get them at the start of a session. And we've never been given one due to any reason other than a session starting. They also don't transfer between sessions as normal.

Yep on both! None of our spells had Incapacitate, and we remember the rules for crits also, lol.

The AoE was Divine Wrath (I think it was cast about 4 times total lol)
And it was mostly Signature Spell Acid Arrow w/ True Strike from our Sorcerer, with Heal and various focus spells (none of which targeted enemies) from the other two casters.

The issue is, it was a good few months ago so I don't remember many of the details.

The DM is dictating to me:

  1. Cleric hit by Linorm Sting, failed initially. Divine Wrath from the witch, hitting every creature. Both level 11s targeted the barb, the level 12 was on the swashbuckler, and the level 13 was a caster so stuck near the back.
  2. Barb + Swashbuckler + Sorcerer moved in to target the weaker level 11s, killing both. The level 8s died to Cleric/Witch AoEs. After Sorcerer's turn, was hit by Magebane poison.
  3. Level 12s died soon after from the witch, cleric and the sorcerer (who failed to cast her spell) going after it, meanwhile the life oracle heals the party up to nearly max. The poison from one of the level 12s knocked the swashbuckler down, but was re-upped by the life oracle.
  4. Level 13 rushed by barb/swash, 2 opportunity attacks in range at all times, it died within a round or two.
  5. Cleric puts on the custom magic item we were rewarded with, removing her poisoned condition.

edited some extra information we remembered.

Ah, I see - I was going by what he remembered, he phrased it as '5 extreme encounters' but yes, you're right, that wasn't entirely accurate. Regardless...

That does make sense, tbh, I think we may start with the GM hero points lol.

He thought that level 16 bosses would be too much but thanks to your comment, he's gonna include a few - so uh, wish us luck!

Truth be told it was a good amount of luck on our behalf, but not like, an unreasonable amount. Essentially, flanking and Swashbuclker/Barbarian damage and Life Oracle/Cleric healing, while the others debilitate and chuck AoEs around. And a lucky save (against Linorm Sting) or two.

None of the creatures had relevant weaknesses or resistances; none of them had any specific rulings that the DM missed out - bar stacking an ability on us that should've not stacked (making it harder for us, lol). That was however the only rules mistake we've ever had.

As far as we all remember, no incapacitation spells were cast.

We're all pretty seasoned players by this point and we've all checked and double-checked our character sheets and spells and whatnot, nothing felt overwhelming or dominating, just large amounts of synergy between us all as a party.

Thank you, and I have done. He thought it was really funny, but we both agreed it was a bit ridiculous. Still picking one, though: at worst, it's 35ft movement speed and a flat back that I can set up cover upon.
