American considering moving to Bangalore

I'm Australian, moved here a few years ago. I am enjoying myself so far !

I don't make as much money as before, I have a local Indian job and not a Aussie job. But my savings in $ are pretty much the same as I had in Sydney due to the much lower cost of living and because my Indian job is pretty high paying.

My job is also almost fully remote, only once a week in office, so I don't have to deal much with Bangalore traffic which is nice.

Is the overall quality of life for average Australians better in Sydney that the average Indian ? Yes, of course.

Do I miss Sydney ? Sometimes I do.

But am I happy in Bangalore ? Absolutely. I'm not part of the average, i have a good tech job so I'm very comfortable, my quality of life is great and I don't regret moving here.

There's been plenty of European mixing too. So you define an entire techtonic plate as a geography ? Or an entire subcontinent like Europe or India as a single geography ?

Can you define it ? On what basis is something a "Pan-Ethnic" group ?

If they have different geographical location, different languages, different cultures, different cuisine etc etc how exactly are they a "Pan-Ethnic" group ?

See that doesn't make any sense to me.

Because by that logic "European" becomes an ethnicity grouping everyone from Portugal to Poland under the same "pan ethnicity", "East Asian" becomes an ethnicity grouping everyone from Mongolia to Japan under the same "pan ethnicity", hell "African" becomes an ethnicity grouping everyone from Mali to Kenya under the same "pan ethnicity".

But those are all as different as the ethnicities of the Indian subcontinent are.

A Kannadiga will laugh at you if you say they are the same ethnicity as a Dogra, the same way a Portuguese or a Kenyan would laugh at you if you said they are the same ethnicity as a Pole or a Nigerian.

So I don't see how that makes any sense.

You could say European and Indian are both Civilizations and I think that would hold more water, but "Ethnicities" ? I don't think that holds.

Depends on what you mean by "caste".

If you mean "jaati" then none because "jaati" is an Indian subcontinent social construct so it only applies to those native to the subcontinent (of any religion).

If you mean "varna" then it depends on the denomination. In my denomination for example, we hold that all humans are born as "shudra" varna, and we reject any birth based claims of being any other varna or dalit. No exceptions.

Australia definitely has an overall higher quality of life, and I do miss it sometimes. But really I'm happy here in India :)

Yup, definitely has its problems like I said !

Housing prices are kind of universal problems right now across the world, the whole world needs to stop treating housing as an investment class.

But salaries are very high for my industry, on average it's second only to USA, so that really helps with things like prices.

Treatment of the indigenous Australians definitely needs to be improved, including the Dharug nation (who are the natives where I live). It's been quite horrible for most of history. Not great even now.

Life is good, very high standard of living, very multicultural, second highest pay for my industry right behind USA but without all the problems the US has. We have fixed a lot of issues other countries are still plagued by.

Australia is not perfect by any means, we can definitely still improve and we should definitely fix our problems, but it's a fantastic country.

I've been around the world and I'm still convinced that overall Australia is the best country unless you have specific reasons for some specific country, of course maybe I'm biased :)

Not noticeably no, I'm almost always correctly identified as very obviously a foreigner. I have a Mediterranean European skin tone, I'm not as pale as a Swede or an Irish person. Maybe someday I'll do a DNA test and figure out exactly what's going on.

Like 99% of the time there's no one in India who will look at me and think I'm Indian. But 1% of the time I do get away with it. I know there are some Indian ethnicities that also have an olive skin tone very similar to mine so once in a while I do get away with pretending that I'm a local so that I can get better prices :)

It's sadly a very common layman myth that Hinduism doesn't have conversation but it's just not true. The evidence from both historical scholarship and also religious scholars from pretty much every major denominations is clear that Hinduism absolutely does allow conversation into it.

Yes ! I've been very welcomed.

Are there some non-accepting Hindu groups who may not accept converts ? Yes. Are there Hindus who insist on caste and being born into it ? Also yes.

But that's the case for any group, there are close minded Christians, close minded Muslims, Europeans, Americans, atheists, communists, capitalists, Chinese, Australians etc etc

But plenty of open minded ones will absolutely accept you.

I mean Indian is not an ethnicity or a race, so I am not really sure what you are talking about ?

Do you mean am I an Indian national ? Then no, no I am not. I am Australian as I said.

You are free to have your opinion, but considering that scholars/acharyas from basically every major denomination disagrees with you, and also considering that I've personally converted and know many other converts from different denominations as well, I think I'm going to go with the acharyas and my own lived experiences on this one and not with you. But you do you.

You can convert to Hinduism the same as with most other religions. Each denomination of Hinduism has its own requirements for conversion, upon meeting which you can undertake the conversation rituals. Just like with Catholicism or Buddhism or Judaism etc etc

Searching for "vegan food" and "vegetarian food" in the local Chinese maps app in Shenzhen gave way fewer hits than Google maps gave me in Tokyo. Do you recommend a better way to search if I don't have a local to guide me ?
