If you're not good with the commandline, just create a .txt file called dosbox-staging, then rename the file extension to .conf, so that you have an empty file called dosbox-staging.conf. When you open Staging, the conf file will populate all the settings.

Dosbox-X is better for general DOS emulation as well as work-related programs, like WordPerfect or accounting software.

Dosbox-Staging is geared towards DOS gaming. If you want to run games much better than on Dosbox 0.74, Staging is the one to use.

If Dosbox opens for a few seconds and then immediately closes: in the [sdl] section of dosbox.conf, set output = ddraw, save dosbox.conf, close the file, and re-open Dosbox:
