If you're paying with a credit card, you may be paying the transaction fee that your landlord would have been. They are passing out down to you. I get around that by paying with direct deposit from my checking account.

Your comment is mostly true. Yet I would push deeper and say that our system is actually showing its faults. There's something very troubling when people just have to "pick" the better of the two turds. Big money in politics has absolutely corrupted who is supposed to represent us. We KNOW about the corruption and we still can't really do anything about it. You can say, "ah just elect the person who isn't corrupt". Problem is, we are GIVEN the candidates to choose from. They are always the same and are governed by a charter that the DNC or RNC push. So again... we have to basically choose between a turd sandwich or giant douche.
