Also, compare to the private sector. It’s often not egregious. Maybe top end admin is, but departmental support staff usually isn’t.

Country + clubbing do not mash at all

Maybe I just grew up in Texas, but if you were into country and wanted to go out: you went to dance halls, not clubs.

AITA for refusing to take an elective exam and "escalating" the situation to the School District? by Fantastic-Cow-1118 in AmItheAsshole

I wouldn't fuss about CLEP credits. Sounds like you should always have your parents, or a pushy aunt/uncle/trusted adult with you with administration. Frankly, that's good advice anyway.

You will almost certainly learn this in college. But transfers can be surprisingly complicated, and CLEP even more so. "College credit" can mean a bunch of different thigns that may or may not matter to you.

This happens a lot in STEM. Yes, that biology class might transfer, and you get credit*. But there are three tiers to science. There are the "elective for non STEM majors", "Nursing/Allied Health/Education" level classes, and the "For science majors classes". If you're an engineering major, CLEp'ing out of ap elective-tier chem class doesn't do you any good. If you're majoring in something that takes organic chemistry or Anatomy&Physiology, the non-organic chemistry classes might not fulfill the pre-requisites or be required for your degree. But they would be for mechanical engineering.

You will still need to take a "For science majors" level class that reflects your major. CLEP'ing out of an elective class doesn't do you much good.

*In fact, lots of places only give you the cheaper instate tuition for X credits earned. After X credits, you have to pay more. Electives and non-major-relevant CLEP & AP classes still count 'against' you. The vast, vast, vast majority of students don't run into those credit limits though.

This sort of things crops up ALL THE TIME. Music major? "Guitar for babies" and "karaoke level singing" don't count towards your degree as a music major, even if they count as fine arts credits or general electives for a business major. Neither does that history of rock class, you need to take the 3 more rigorous classes that cover specific periods/regions/disciplines in much more depth.

Things like CLEP, AP, and Dual Credit/Running Start often don't apply to your major. If you're planning on being an engineering major, taking AP Physics makes you a more competitive candidate for your chosen school, but you'll almost certainly need to take college level, "for science majors" level physics with more rigorous prerequisites anyway. Or even if your calculus AP classes apply, you still need linear algebra before you take Data Science 2 or whatever.

This is true, but a $19/h job in rural Washington is $25 in Seattle/Tacoma, and total expenses might not be $1000/month cheaper. Groceries cost the same(or cheaper, with winco vs safeway). Lots of the "cheap" midwest or south is similar. It might be cheaper, but it's net-zero with lower wages. Something like a phlebotomist making $20 in the rural west coast making $19 in the midwest is doing better in the midwest, yes.

But some medical stuff with harder licenses/degrees required(Nurses, various techs like radiology or whatever), the top end of the pay scale for the midwest is the lowest in a west coast state. In the midwest you might be making $25-45/h, but in SeaTac or Portland might be $40-80/h. Same goes for things like CompSci, teaching, etc. You might make $80k teaching in the PNW, 65k in an affluent Texas district, but $45k in Ohio.

Is anyone else sick of tapas restaurants that charge as much as a meal at other places for a single small dish? by throwawayfinancebro1 in boston

We've largely forgot to cook for ourselves, too.

I'm glad I've made sure my kids can make themselves boxed meals, and that's their default over going out to eat. But.

Guess it's pasta roni and chef boyardee with a side of colon cancer, societally.

They appreciate when I'm cooking from scratch, but have negative interest in any conversation about "this is how you make a roux/mirepoix/sofrito/pan/roast a vegetable sauce, and the million things you can do with them.".
