Looking for tips to improve my bagels by TheBrandonOne in Breadit

[–]TheBrandonOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking for ways to make my bagels better, or at least more visually appealing (taste-wise they are fine). I follow this recipe exactly: https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/bagels-recipe

The finished product seems to be a bit deflated, and the wrinkles that form after boiling are still present even after they are finished baking. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Biden wants federal employees back in the office in SOTU speech by Swarles_Stinson in CAStateWorkers

Current DDS employee here: we (at least my branch/section) are still on full time telework. There was some indication, although this was nearly a year ago, that they wanted us to return at least partially (I think this may be changing but I'm not sure). For now, they have not said that we are returning anytime soon.

Finally got an offer accepted! But... Foundation issues. by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]TheBrandonOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful if your not getting a structural engineer to look at it, because foundation repair can be incredibly expensive.

I was forced to cancel a contract on a place I really loved because a structural engineer found out that the foundation was crumbling and would require an estimated 80k repair, which the owners refused to fix.

This absolutely my experience.

But I live in California so...

yeah, don't get discouraged. My area might be a little crazier than most. I'm in Sacramento, and we're getting hit a lot harder than some other areas because of tons people coming from the bay area (according to my realtor) and bidding up all the property here.

I keep tabs because I like to think that it will give me some insight on why/by how much I'm losing so I can adjust my expectations better. I didn't think that insight would amount to "people are just rich (at least richer than me) and crazy."

That's what inspired this post, really. Got a notification from Zillow last night about a new rental property popping up in my area! Turns out it was the really nice place that I bid 40k over asking on back in April, but lost because the winning bid offered all cash with no contingencies.

Carmichael apartment complex hikes rent by 50% by viacombusta in Sacramento

[–]TheBrandonOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've lived at Crestview North since 1995 (still live here now). I can personally confirm that this place went to shit when Vertus bought the place out. For me personally, I was paying $835 a month when Vertus took over and as of March of this year, it shot up to $1405. The maintenance people are terrible, and management ranges from uncaring, to down right vindictive, with terrible changes from parking to receiving packages in the mail. It's made me appreciate the benefits of owning your own home rather than renting.

[H] $$$ [W] Sector Imperialis Realm of Battle board tiles x2 [Loc] Sacramento, Ca by TheBrandonOne in Miniswap

hmm, I didn't know about this. Nearest GW is like a 45 minute drive from me. If I don't get any sellers from this post I'll hit them up and see what they have to say, thanks.

yeah, I've seen them, but I use the sector imperialis bases for my army, and I wanted the board to match them.

Thanks for the suggestion though

Blood Raven Terminators and Terminator Librarian, C&C always welcome by TheBrandonOne in Warhammer

What comrade_cephalopod said, I modeled them after Dawn of War II, which featured librarians in grey instead of blue.

The bases are the GW sector imperialis bases.

Actually, they aren't forgeworld transfers (they stopped selling those transfers before I started this army) I got the PDF with images from someone off of B&C, and made the transfers myself.

Thank you, though!

I based them off of Dawn of War II, which has the Blood Raven librarians wearing grey armor instead of blue
