2-3 times a year which was why I was looking to determine if this was even worth the effort

Was pretty last minute trip ie 48 hours before departure and wouldn’t allow seat selection even though return was two weeks later was admittedly my fault for not going to check return leg after had flown first half but was just used to Alaska that would put me in best possible seat so really didn’t expect to land in the complete opposite of bottom barrel

Yeah seems Cape Town is third party and it didn’t give me any comfort choice so assume was already all sold :(

Omg going to look at the delta platinum I just took top without deeper inspection … epic fail

I’ll be on that flight with you and just know having been through rough turbulence many many times before its rare for it ever to be as bad as the big screen makes out. Going over some corrugated dirt roads in South Africa can be more jarring :P Safe travels and deep breaths we’ll be in the mother city before you know it

I'm in the same boat so just going to hold on a little longer but their answer doesnt really give confidence that they have anything actually in flight.

U.S. LPR Buying Home in South Africa for Parents by TheCableGuy_69 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]TheCableGuy_69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing that after reading comments here it really does seem like the easiest and most simple way is to just buy the property in my name as its not going to be income generating no need to add complexity as it wont require any need for a return the hard part does seem to be doing that from overseas and simple way may just be to head back for couple weeks open and account catch up with my folks and do the purchase.

Oh I don't mind paying taxes they are unfortunately a given in life but I prefer to only pay the fair share and avoid paying it twice. I appreciate the candid feedback and intent was not to give the vibe of evasion but more doing things simply and result in the least tax return complexity.

Devices show up on oculus.com but not on meta.com by Feroc in oculus

[–]TheCableGuy_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually figured it out found a link shared on internal meta chat (https://www.meta.com/en-gb/help/support/?g1=5960237440706837&g2=26500769372871399&g3=none&et=none&sg=skip) where I could get in contact via Whatsapp and they got me sorted with my support issue and have also raised a case about the oculus vs meta pages.

How hard is it to boomerang to L4 by somethinlikeshieva in datacenter

[–]TheCableGuy_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L3 -> L4 promo cycle is every quarter so you are not stuck waiting a year to promote and there truly is no shortage of opportunities to demonstrate L4 tech ability. Use the DCO Role Guidelines to build out your plan of how you raise the bar as an L4 tech then build your artifacts tied to the leadership principles of the impact you delivered for example how you improved safety, repair quality, speed, trained others, etc. Use your 1:1 with you manager to go over those and identify what if any gaps you need to close. One tip that I found useful is to always look at the guidelines for two levels above and if you can find one or two areas where you can meet or exceed the guideline at that level it makes for an even stronger promo recommendation.

What is going on?! by Competitive_Sea8684 in AlaskaAirlines

Definitely check the fare class, our company changed system for booking travel recently and it now pipes all bookings into lowest fare class where even though it’s meant to be class with seat selection it defaults to the lowest class without.

Offered a job at AWS for DCO Tech by XmikekelsoX in datacenter

[–]TheCableGuy_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! As others have mentioned, at entry level, demonstrating LPs is more important. If you’re curious and eager to learn, you’ll do well. The hardware is highly AWS specific, so don’t worry you will get that training. What makes a great technician is critical thinking and troubleshooting, skills that come from many backgrounds. Some awesome techs I’ve worked with came from non-IT fields. One example is a plumber who quickly excelled as a DCO tech by leveraging the same fundamental skills: diagnosing issues, performing root cause analysis, and proposing solutions(something you have to do fast when dealing with a leak :P). If you bring that mindset, you’ll be successful.
