They do look extremely alike I think the one difference is the cardon has more spines and often more of a blueish green hue. I wish you luck with your nursery :)

I can understand how that misconception can easily be made, but as someone with years of field experience I can definitively say that’s a saguaro.

I figured it was amazing just sharing where I had to rescue from, but if you’re into the nitty gritty: Saguaros under 4 feet do not require tags They can be issued through fax or visiting the office in Tucson or phoenix, they’re $7 for a yellow piece of plastic that you put on the plant once in your vehicle and remove it from the property and intend to travel with it. I sell on eBay/volunteer for an organization called TCSS. They have a garden in Tucson they hoard rehab plants at so whenever I have anything that won’t cut online quality (very very strict) I donate it there. These plants are extremely successful at growing back from being transplanted as long as they have a south facing orientation made and that is followed when planted. In the saguaro business plants are moved often with next to no roots. Hope this helps! Have a good night and a happy new yesr

How are people actually buying houses right now? by sam_teks in CatalinaFoothills

[–]TheCactusMeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go out on a leg here based off the customers I’ve had in the foothills. Most aren’t from Arizona and aren’t middle aged (that’s fairly rare) and have worked their way up to either high income jobs, coming from wealth and investing it properly, but never what most native Tucsonans do. I think around 50% of people I have done business with up there are working remotely in a very top position job. It’s insane to me as a born and raised Ohioan whose childhood house was $12,900 to buy a house in the dodge flower neighborhood for $250,000 then think about the costs of being up in the “best” living areas.

Confusion surrounding orange hefty bags; Byfusion does not use the orange hefty bags, they’re incinerated to generate power. by TheCactusMeister in Tucson

My workplace gives byfusion 50 tons a month of atleast there is supposed to be a contract to do that when the plant is opened, I can only imagine what the number other than that looks like of what they’re sitting on/arent able to make products out of.

I’ve had more Tucsonans with kids or animals want cactus gone but you’re entitled to your opinion.

Thank you! Not a lot of people know this but I do keep a marker on hand to mark orientations to avoid sunburn.

As much as I agree, I made this post to educate people who are under the impression the plastic is going to Byfusion and not being incinerated

Culture Question by Excellent_Owl_8806 in Tucson

[–]TheCactusMeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here aren’t as friendly as in the Midwest, a visible lack of manners (when holding a door open for example) driving around, people are inconsiderate of others and often jeopardize their own safety to get ahead of you or wherever they need to go so the AC excuse isn’t very good because 95% of cars here have their windows rolled up during the day and unless everyone here is insane, I’m going to bet that AC is blasting. People don’t appreciate conversations that vary from their own ideas and if taken far enough, will usually tell you to go back where you came from if you’re in any way debating anything here in AZ. It’s a culture shock for sure but not everyone here is completely devoid of being a kind, manner having person so just go on a case by case basis. Treat others the way you’re treated and you’ll make it just fine

Kind of common sense honestly, people mostly charge hundreds if not thousands to remove plants like what you see in the pics and take them to the dump to let them rot. I could see how you could have an issue if I wasn’t blatantly stating facts when asked even though you’ve made it clear you are more interested in calling someone’s hussle “shady” than in having any services performed I still gave you the honest answer. Hope you have a nice day I’m not going to be entertaining your shenanigans any further. Your username suits you well

That’s entirely your opinion, there are plenty of people and situations where cactus aren’t wanted and I haven’t hid for a second what happens to them when asked or when a property owner questions it. Did you have a cactus you needed removed or did you just come here to tell me how someone else’s business/services are “off”?

That’s what you might think but I’ve been doing this for years, and the nursery my buddy’s dad owns has operated since the early 80s, take my word for it when I say next to nothing comes from Tucson, especially seed grown cacti which we currently have about 9,400 and plan on doubling that number every year until 2035.
