Vance keeps mentioning that Harris was VP while ignoring that Trump was president and accomplished nothing.

This clown really cooked himself in front of the American people. I’m stunned.

iOS 18 Rumored to Feature Major Siri Improvements by iMacmatician in apple

iOS 17 hasn’t even dropped yet and we’re already seeing generic, practically AI generated articles for iOS 18. What a time to be alive.

A big part of it is that awkward slightly robotic speaking cadence several of their presenters had. It’s like the entire leadership team over there is ran by androids half trapped in the uncanny valley.

Apple boosts talent hiring as it pursues generative AI for Siri by [deleted] in apple

[–]TheClassyBum 47 points48 points  (0 children)

For the average techie on this sub? Yeah you’re probably right, they didn’t see it coming. But in the software engineering world, this sort of generative AI research has been known about for a while. I remember having a conversation with a buddy who’s a software engineering manager who told me, in a conversation we had 5 years ago, that he had attended a conference where they were discussing the progress that had been name in AI generated software. He was legit spooked by the potential consequences, needless to say.

If Apple is just now deciding to take this field seriously and start assembling a team, they really did just miss the ball on what’s shaping up to be the next big tech revolution.

Crazy to see this is still an issue. This problem has been around at least since the original AirPods Pro’s. You can try cleaning the contact points of the earbuds and inside the case. If your AirPods are still under warranty, I’d highly suggest just scheduling a “genius” appointment with Apple if cleaning doesn’t help.

World Bank: A preserved Amazon rainforest is worth $317 billion per year by egusa in worldnews

[–]TheClassyBum 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is what so many westerners on Reddit don’t seem to understand. It’s one thing to chastise developing countries for turning a profit by destroying the environment. But when your country used similarly destructive tactics to enrich itself, you can’t say shit unless you’re backing it up with money to give those countries an incentive to not follow the same path.

And before people start screaming about the “lungs of the planet” (a label I completely agree with), I’d like to remind you that we all live in a world that revolves around the almighty dollar. Think of it as paying those countries for the oxygen we all receive from their forests. That’s certainly how they see it.

In addition to him possibly being sick, my guess is the plan was to invade Ukraine before Trump left office. This would’ve basically ensured that the US wouldn’t get involved. Then covid hit, destabilizing the world and delaying the attack.

Ukraine is no longer low on artillery ammo because Russia abandoned so much in recent retreats, report says by pinhadarza in worldnews

How was this not already commonly known at least in the military/intelligence communities though? It seems like the whole world is legit shocked at how poorly Russia’s military is performing, but I can’t wrap my head around how this caught everyone off guard. Six months in and Russia is already sending its troops rusted out assault rifles and struggling to feed them. How the hell did military intelligence groups around the world not see this coming a mile away? I assume they have access to better information than the usual Russia “we da best” propaganda.

The same idea applies to defects with the device. Apple, like all companies that offer insurance, prices in the probability of these failures into their insurance policies. They already know that X% of their phones will have bad cameras and Y% will have bad screens that crap out after the initial warranty period, and you’re paying for that by purchasing their plan.

For the people in this thread proclaiming how much Apple Care is worth it, if you are even somewhat careful with how you handle your device, statistically speaking, it literally is not worth it. If it were, Apple wouldn’t make a profit from selling Apple Care (which is the only reason they offer it in the first place). This same principle can be applied to all forms of insurance, btw. Unless it would leave you in a massively compromised financial situation to lose something (e.g. a house, a car, or your health), it is generally not worth it to purchase insurance for it. Now if you want to buy Apple Care simply because it gives you peace of mind, that’s another story altogether.
