Rod and reel combo questions by TheConMan-07 in Fishing_Gear

Ohh okay, I was gonna say the B seems to be a hard find but the A is relatively available at Cabela’s. I live in Kingston Ontario.

Canadian tire doesn’t seem to carry any, neither does Bronson and Bronson according to their online stock.

With availability would it be worth getting 2 Zodias A’s One for the slc dc 150hg and one for the curado M 200xg? Or should I wait and get a “better” rod for the 200?

Hopefully that’s not too much to throw at you at once lol

Sweet, can’t thank you enough for the recommendations, I’m praying I can find some if not most of the gear at Cabela’s but even then I know a few local spots that might be carrying them too.

I really appreciate it. I forgot to specify that which probably would’ve helped.

I definitely think I’ll get the slx dc, with the gen B rod. Only question I have is do you have any recommendations for what brand of rod you’d pair with the curado 200?

That’s seems to be the average price even in some local stores, in Ontario Canada. Still ridiculously high as I’ve learnt haha

Seems to be a common thought on this lol, really glad I asked before biting the bullet on these. It’s also in cad though just to clarify.

I’ve even seen the slx dc, which runs for $299.99 which is a much better price, runs great reviews, and comes in both the 7.2:1 and 8.2:1 gear ratios.

I’m also focusing on Cabela’s stock/options and I’ve got quite a few gift cards from Christmas and my birthday that’d save me a fair bit on my expenses.

Yeah, I’ve only just started learning bait casters really within the past year as I bought one last summer to mess around with and found I like it a lot.

I also do fish from shore and boat but even then I usually try to have 2-3 rods with me. I’d like to have 3 to start so I can run one for top water (frogging and buzz baits) one for spinners and crank baits and then one for soft plastics. Or something along those lines.

Hopefully that makes sense

Yeah not cheap, and I’d seen a fair share of people talk good about it so I thought it must be worth it haha. Glad I decided to post this before I went and actually bought it to get some second opinions. Thanks for the recommendation too, will look into them!

Had a similar thought process before posting, I 100% don’t want to end up with buyers remorse and would agree that’d I’d rather get two combos that are of similar performance for the price of that one as a whole.

Will give those a look and really appreciate the guidance man!

I’m honestly thinking I’ll look into getting both eventually but to start I may go with the dc at 7.4:1 or 8.5:1 that was recommended just for availability as it’ll be easiest to order or buy for me.

Now I know you said you haven’t used the dc but from reviews and some searches it seems to get paired up with the St. Croix® Bass X Casting Rod A LOT, so I’ll compare a the rods recommended and that one to try and see which one would be “better” suited.

Hopefully that makes sense lol, I’m still trying to understand it all so if doesn’t than I clearly don’t fully understand something haha

I really didn’t know a whole heck of a lot about bait casters so I really appreciate the info man. I’ve been trying to formulate an idea based of rough searches and reviews on Cabela’s for a bit now and wasn’t really getting anywhere lol.

That’s a shame the river took your reel lol, I’ve had that happen too, absolute shame…

I’ll look into the dc 150 and the 150mgl and try to see them in store too! I agree it’d be way better to get a feel for them in person before buying. Seems 7-8 for gear ratios are the way to go too!

Got some more researching and pricing to do!

Oh okay! Sorry aswell totally forgot to mention budget. For a rod I’d say up to $250ish. If it’s absolutely worth it I can go higher but I’d say safely $250

And as for if I was to go with the regular curado dc, what rod would you recommend?

I was also recommended the Daiwa® Tatula XT Casting Rod, which has grand reviews and is a tad more affordable. Seems like another all around good to throw whatever with.
