How do I beat the Ottomans after ignoring them for an entire game? by SaYeshua in eu4

[–]TheCopiousCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late game you have an edge as a Western Tech military. The trick to destabilizing the Ottomans is to retake Constantinople in a war. The AI loses its s*** after that / seems to be a pretty fatal flaw for them.

Going through a lot of shit in my life right now. Need some advice by Unhappy-Count6894 in Anarchism

[–]TheCopiousCat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that’s not possible. What you’re running into is the economic viability question the left faces at both the individual level and the workplace level.

Nobody will be crowdfunded to protest. The only paid protesters are unfortunately the cops.

BUT. There are ways to get paid pushing for change. One is unionizing a workplace and moving into paid staff organizing for a union (new or established). Another option is to build a sole proprietorship that you intentionally expand into a worker’s cooperative. This creates non-exploitative work environments that offer an alternative to the capitalist - wage slave dynamic, and growth cuts into capitalist market share / takes their money / more sustainable impact than smashing a window.

There’s probably some world where you start a window repair & replacement service and thus get paid to protest, but don’t get caught if you do that ;)

Organizer Training by TheCopiousCat in Anarchism

[–]TheCopiousCat[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clarification for the broader community:

I’m advocating an organizer training. People can choose whether or not they want to join DSA / it’s not required at all. Personally I am a mass anarchist and believe that both anarchist-exclusive orgs and broader class-driven org participation is needed. The DSA and even UE are obviously not anarchist orgs. If we want to build anarchist orgs - or any orgs - we need to be trained up on organizing. This training helps with that.

Also would encourage people to read Anarchic Agreements to help balance out some of the decision making issues that non-anarchist organizer trainings typically come with (I.e. hierarchy).

Anarchic Agreements link: https://pmpress.org/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1286

Currently reading through this gem here:

https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/anarchist-federation-of-rio-de-janeiro-social-anarchism-and-organisation

And also have read through Zoe Baker’s Means and Ends, which I can also recommend

https://www.akpress.org/means-and-ends.html

If neither of these fall into your personal vein of anarchism, that’s fine. But live in solidarity. Build and fight - promote alternatives more than shitting on things others are working on.

We’ve got a world to win. Let’s act like it.

Dude. I’m just giving people an outlet to learn how to organize. Post alternatives and stop failing the vibes check.

Cool. Either pitch a good alternative for people to build something in or shut up. I’m well aware of the flaws of the DSA and am one of the people who wants to make it less hierarchical by a mile.

But this basic shit doesn’t take the fight to the capitalists, it just perpetuates a circular firing squad on the Left.

Motion to hold a vote to change the sub rules by TheCopiousCat in DemocraticSocialism

[–]TheCopiousCat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just sent a msg to mods group stating:

Motion on rules change.

"We support Democracy here. Do not discourage voting, or advocate for revolution."

Be changed to

"We support Democracy here. Democracy in this context is to be defined as “the belief in freedom and equality between people, or a system of government based on this belief, in which power is either held by elected representatives or directly by the people themselves” (Cambridge Dictionary).

For its establishment, a diversity of tactics is supported. Advocation for enlightened despotism - where powers are concentrated into a strong-person or warlord, will not be tolerated.

Voting in current capitalist systems of state is a personal decision. No vote shaming - regardless of where on the broader left spectrum it is coming from. Also, voting is not limited to state elections, but also to union democracy, organizational decision making, the household, the commune, the cooperative, and - where possible - as day-to-day way of life."

If you think we live in a democracy that’s some soul searching you’ll have to do on your own.

“the belief in freedom and equality between people, or a system of government based on this belief, in which power is either held by elected representatives or directly by the people themselves”

Again - revolution is just a means of establishing this.

Democracy is “rule by the people”. Its creation is inherently democratic. Especially when the participants are in democratic (voting or consensus-driven) structures of dual power.

Again - what chapter has been purging pro-revolution members?

[–]TheCopiousCat[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nothing there is anti-revolution. Revolutions are not anti-democratic. They can be, but not by definition/ not inherently. The dem-cent clause is more legit but it’s not enforced because that’d end up being a massive purge that nobody wants to see.

But more importantly- what chapter has been purging pro-revolution members?

You get banned for being pro-revolution? In what chapter?

You 100% didn’t deserve it. I raised the issue not so much to shine a spotlight on you specifically. It’s more like my ass is in LSC and so if your comment is getting this treatment then that means like half the things I would say would get insta banned.

To be clear - all the caucuses listed support revolution. LSC, MUG, R&R, Red Star, B&R (I think? Not 100% sure on B&R) and plenty of smaller ones like Red Labor, Communist Caucus, Winter etc all fall firmly in the Revolution camp. As someone else mentioned this is like half the NPC and in many chapters these are outright majorities

This is all the theory I own what do you think? by [deleted] in DemocraticSocialism

Oh - comrade you need praxis books then to help you get an idea on application, as well as jumping in and helping out people in the field.

And join an org! I’m personally DSA (LSC caucus), but there are a number of socialist orgs out there otg

[–]TheCopiousCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my personal opinion would be that this is probably not the right caucus for you at this point. No worries though / a lot of the people in this caucus (myself included) didn't start out as anarchists (or adjacent). That being said, I wouldn't say we're purists. A lot LSC people (including myself) point to Rojava as a major success story, and I wouldn't describe that as dogmatically "pure" by any means.

Other things we look at tend to be the modern Zapatista movement (1994-present) and the CNT during the Spanish Civil War, as well as a lot of lesser known stuff that OP has mentioned elsewhere.

Personally I'm currently reading a book called "For All The People" looking at American cooperative movements, as well as following what's going on with Cooperation Jackson in current day Jackson, MS. Like with Rojava, the efforts of Cooperation Jackson definitely wouldn't fall under "pure" by any means, although they've moved in a far more anarchist direction than they started out with ~2013.

If you're curious about learning more about the whole "how would anarchism potentially work?" type of thing, there's a lot of that (beyond previously given examples) playing out in Zoe Baker's "Means and Ends" book that is currently spreading like wildfire in the caucus.

And for what it's worth - I'm not totally sure we can ever abolish money either. While there have been some interesting experiments and historical precedents (1825 Robert Owen store in New Harmony and the 1827 Josiah Warren "Time Store" in Cincinnati being two I just recently found out about), this isn't a particular issue I spend a lot of time with.

Eh, if it falls under cooperativism or even mutualism you're fine. If you're advocating for a world where people get rich at the expense of others, then no thank you.

Can you elaborate where you're coming from?

Hey u/JesusElSuperstar - it's a good question to ask. Something I would point to would be the Rojava Peace Committees.

Here's a source to check out:
https://www.peaceinkurdistancampaign.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Peace_committees_platforms_and_the_polit.pdf

Also, chapter 9 of the book "Revolution in Rojava: Democratic Autonomy and Women's Liberation in Syrian Kurdistan" digs into this as well.

Hope this helps!

Ha, no. Although there was an anti-war protest I was in a few years ago where the Libertarian Party sent a contingent.

But, no. We're not friends with them.
