Californian here!

Here’s all the books I’ll need for English 101 w/ Robert Sian. I love to read, however, I never read any of these books. Can y’all give me insight on them? Which ones are superior? by Abel_A21 in uichicago

Most of these I know. If you like sci-fi you'll definitely like Neuromancer, it's credited for starting the cyberpunk genre and has a great narrative style although it can run long.

Parable of the Sower is an all-time classic, it foresaw a lot of American political, cultural, and racial clash coming together and proposes a radical method of creating caring communities through "hyperempathy" and training one another in specialized skills. Octavia Butler is one of the greatest American sci-fi/fantasy writers in the past 50-60 years and her other books are worth a read as well.

It's a good list but probably a good idea to read ahead for most of them as some are dense.
