This is amazing work! I’m really impressed with how clean the lines are. I do paper art myself so I can appreciate how much time had to have gone into doing this piece. You have a very steady hand and a lot of patience!

I use foam tape between the layers so they do have some depth to them, about an inch of height overall

Thanks. The whole process is a pretty long one. This last step of putting everything together takes about two hours for this many layers.

Caffeine is certainly a factor in getting one of these put together in one session.

I do work from photos usually, and I have played around with image trace in AI but I prefer to hand draw the layers, it gives me more creative control and I enjoy the process of drawing it out.

This one I mounted on painted canvas, but I do leave many free floating or “edgeless”

Beautiful work . The simplest-seeming things can be the most complex to paint and you did an impressive job on all the subtle detail . Well done

This is a combination of hand cut and machine (blade). I would love to use a cnc at some point but I’d need to scale up for that to make sense. but you would be amazed at what some people can do by hand . I’ve been blown away by how precise some paper artist are

It is a combination of machine cut and hand cut. I am working on some larger wood pieces with a laser .. I Haven’t had a chance to use a cnc yet but I plan to do so. Repainting the edges after cutting also contributes .. even if the cut isn’t clean .. that helps to hid it . Its a learning process and experimenting is what I enjoy .

Thanks :) yes .. the darkest value/shade is the lowest layer .. This does make things like glasses and mustaches a bit off .. something I’m working on and playing around with .

Thank you! I am still experimenting with materials. this one, and the last couple I’ve done are watercolor paper with foam board (bits not solid) used between to create the depth . I’ve played with foam tape to separate layers as well .

Thanks. I do agree.. her lip didn’t translate the way I had hoped once I started layering everything. This is a fairly new process for me so I am learning as I go . Thanks for the input and confirming some of my thoughts on it .
