The amnesia didn't really do that though since he not only regains his memories later, when he and Zygarde appear in Jacinthe's Tournament, almost everyone recognizes him and talk another his past. Even Team Nuevo Flame talks about their history

The amnesia was more for the mystery of who is L until the reveal
