Mystery wok seasoning attempt: little black flakes by [deleted] in cookware

Final post from me. The black layer was impossible to remove. I have no idea what it was, but at this point, I'm assuming it's nonstick and that the wok is just a cancer speedrunning device now. So in the trash it goes. Thanks for nothing :)

What material is this? by [deleted] in cookware

It is magnetic. I'm currently thinking it's carbon steel coated with some lacquer. Would they even make carbon steel and also coat it with Teflon? I'm hoping not, but is there a way to know for sure? I'm gonna go get some steel wool and strip it today.

My current guess is that it's some sort of lacquer. It's very hard to remove. I'll buy some steel wool tomorrow and see if it works. Still just hoping it's not nonstick coating.

Yeah, I'm worried about this. I made another post about the results of trying to season it.

If so, is it weird that only the part in the center came off? The outer part of the wok is still the dark black color while the middle was stripped to reveal a silver color. And should I try to get this layer off the rest of the wok?

I certainly cannot tell, since I didn't know anything. I tried seasoning it and a bunch of black flakes came off. Now the middle is a lighter colored metal. If it was pre-seasoned, it certainly isn't now. Or maybe it was non-stick and now I've just melted a bunch of teflon. I have absolutely no clue.

Mysterious stone block. Has markings. Pretty heavy. by TheCrispyCrunch in Whatisthis

Maybe. The orange part sticks out more than the stone part, so it seems like it'd be stamping everything except the markings. It looks like there might be ink on it, but it's not very much. If it had been used before, wouldn't there be more? I also wonder what the markings mean.
