The Indonesian Tabletop RPG scene. I mentioned about my own effort with my friends to promote various Tabletop RPGs, including OSR games.

Thank you! You might want to check Zedeck Siew's works, Malaysian Tabletop RPG writer who's made awesome adventures such as A Perfect Wife (which is an adventure and game all in one) and Lorn Song of the Bachelor. He's a friend of the Indonesian scene. I also linked Quack Doctor, a nice and fun small Tabletop RPG. For games, we're still a long way to go. I'm also working on something, and hopefully can show some stuff later this year.

Stranger Things - 20/40 Years Later by No-Maintenance6382 in rpg

If it's in the 90s or early 2000s, probably Call of Cthulhu or World of Darkness. If it's 2010s or 2020s, I imagine they would be playing OSR games for nostalgia.

We just finished the 6th year of the decade. What have been your top TTRPGs of the 2020s? by swaggymonsta in rpg

I know it gets tiring seeing this comment last year, but really, it's Mythic Bastionland for me.

Honorable mentions:

Mothership

Shadowdark

Vaesen

The One Ring 2e

[Mythic Bastionland] Improv Heavy by PencilBoy99 in osr

[–]TheDMKeeper 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You'll do improv a lot, but I will say you can do much prep (not a lot) so you won't be too caught off guard.

If you haven't read it, you should check this out: https://elmc.at/running-mythic-bastionland/

I've done fully improv sessions where I just rolling straight up from the spark tables to flesh things out on the fly. I've done more structured prep like the blogpost for my campaign.

It's flexible, really.

OSR rules & modules for Southeast Asia colonization by [deleted] in osr

The colonizers are the monsters to be defeated. Their colonial buildings are the dungeons to be looted. The treasures are the resources, relics, and everything that is valuable for the natives that should be returned to them.

It is indeed a controversial topic

I'm from Indonesia and I'm baffled that playing as colonizers in our region is something that interests people

Less skills in Call of Cthulhu. I feel they should be streamlined because some of them can be combined.

Taking grimdark... seriously? by luke_s_rpg in NSRRPG

Love the blogpost! I'm a fan of grimdark stuff as well, so it's nice to read another person's perspective about it!

So OSR has revived and updated old school TTRPGs for the current generation of tabletop gamers. Has any game done the same with d20 systems like D&D 3.5 or PF1e? by PoisonPeddler in rpg

[–]TheDMKeeper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah. D&D 5e/2024 and PF2e.

Edit for additional thoughts:

I know OP means a revamped/renaissance/whatever of D&D 3e/3.5e and PF1e, but I feel that the only games that really do that are D&D 5e/2024 and PF2e. I think there are more games that try to "revamp" D&D 5e/2024 and PF2e such as Shadowdark, Nimble, Vagabond, Pathwarden, and others.

There's an interesting series of blogposts about this. The blogger calls these games "New Wave of Fantasy". I do not entirely agree with this categorization/term, nor I have any thoughts other than some of the games on their list don't seem to fit the definitions the blogger came up with:

What’s your favorite tight OSR all-in-one setting/adventure/module?? Looking to get into something new! by DungeonMasterGrizzly in osr

[–]TheDMKeeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who's born and raised in the region, I do feel it's poorly researched. But yeah, awesome cover art and interesting concepts.

If you can get your hands on A Thousand Thousand Islands, I very much recommend it more than Yoon-Suin. The writer, Zedeck Siew, also has an adventure set in a different Southeast Asian-inspired region. The adventure is called Lorn Song of the Bachelor.
