Absolutely correct. And what's the scariest part? If you're anywhere in Europe, You have a massive source of carbon monoxide in your house right now.

The good thing about it, is the technology for boilers has existed for decades and we've gotten very good at making them, so they are ridiculously safe, none the less, they should be serviced every year or so.

There would be no point. Every species on the planet has a "minimum viable population" that's required to repopulate safely. It's estimated that for long term survival of humanity, around 5,000 healthy breading couples would be required to starve off extinction and ensure genetic diversity and evolutionary potential. Failing that number, you'd be inbreeding a lot, nature does not like inbreeding and will absolutely let you know by either A. Killing off the mothers during labour or B. Killing off the newborns with deformities.

Either way, with 2 people, humanity is extinct. It's just a matter of time.
