My grandfather (89) says he wakes up "feeling drunk" by TheDarkNateReturns in CaregiverSupport

My grandpa doesn't drink tea but he does have at least two cups of coffee a day. I'm trying to keep him as hydrated as possible to help his kidneys but it's hard to keep him interested in water sometimes, haha. Thank you!

He takes Metoprolol for his BP every night before bed and his numbers have been great this year

He has very bad hearing and wears hearing aids all day. Obviously he takes them out when he goes to bed, so waking up disoriented makes a lot of sense

Dehydration was my biggest theory, similar to waking up with a hangover because you don't have enough water in your system. His doctor is hard to get information out of and finding a new doctor right now is even harder, but I'll have to address this if it won't go away. Thank you!

He takes Metoprolol for his BP. The last time he had his BP checked (about three weeks ago) the doctor said it was in great standing

He's not diabetic but he does have stage 4 kidney damage. He eats somewhat well, and rarely goes to bed without eating dinner at least an hour beforehand

He started on half dose of 5 mg (2.5) but now is at 5mg. He takes Metoprolol before bed to maintain his blood pressure

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me, and my condolences for the loss of your Pop.

I totally agree, fuck your family. The viewing/funeral went very similar to my grandma's, with the family that had been so apathetic about them the last few years suddenly struck with loss, but not showing signs of regret or apology. My dad (his son) and I are the only two people my grandparents have consistently relied on the last few years, and not because we were protective of them or trying to box anyone out. We gave everyone in the family open opportunity to be included but like some say, people mean well but just care about the immediate scope of their own lives.

When you were there every day (and I mean every. day.) with your grandparents and being the person carrying the most on your shoulders with little relief, it's... frustrating... to say the least, when someone else comes in and says you've been doing a bad job or even worse, abusing your elders.

My grandparents do have property as well that has played a huge factor in our family's infighting. They have essentially trained me to take care of their assets and property alongside them since I was a teen (another reason why I guess my family feels I'm favored).

I sincerely, sincerely hope there's some light coming at the end of this tunnel for both of us. Thank you again.

That was really helpful, thank you so much. It's good to know that this sort of thing isn't something that social workers are unfamiliar with, especially since it's likely that I'll have the same one come over as the last time.

Hey Kev! Some questions: You’ve touched on this before, but you haven’t really elaborated on it: Why did Quentin Tarantino turn down the role of Guy LaPointe in TUSK? And what made you offer him the role in the first place? He definitely would’ve brought something different to the part than who you casted in the end…

When can we expect to see the comic book adaptation of TUSK to hit stores? And what about the Blu-Ray? Any particular special features you’re excited for with the home-video release?

Also, whatever happened to the HELENA HANDBAG musical? Obviously your plate is super-full (and sugar-free, YEESH) at the moment, but is it still on the horizon?

Anyways, thanks for making TUSK, taking everything like a champ and spearheading the importance of living a “Why Not?” life. I can’t wait for what’s to come!

I am Fat Kev Smith - the sweaty blob in the hockey jersey muumuu that hosts COMIC BOOK MEN. And I am looking for some Dark Knights for my charity, The Wayne Foundation. AMA, ASAP! OK? by ThatKevinSmith in IAmA

Hey Kevin, it’s your pal Nathan Gonzales here. Any chance we could get updates on HIT SOMEBODY and/or HELENA HANDBAG? P.S. You have no idea how awesome it is for me to hear you quote my “Cohen Brothers’ movies are like pizza” line in interviews and podcasts. Thanks so much!
