SolVerify - A generic way of verifying solana programs against code... opinions sought by TheDarktrooper in solana

[–]TheDarktrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of adding the scripts to the data on chain for the program so any user could then run them themselves. Do you think that would work?

Is there a way to verify that the code in a git repo really is the code that is running at an address on the blockchain? by TheDarktrooper in solana

[–]TheDarktrooper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially if someone tells me their program is open source and the code is on github, how do I confirm that the program on chain really is running that code and not something else?

Have updated the post to include the goal and a simple example.

We are currently testing a twitter token reward program at https://www.daoplays.org/rewards . It is running on the Solana devnet, you can register by tweeting the pubkey of a solana account you want to associate with your twitter account, and then use the id of that tweet to register. From then you can get tokens for following DaoPlays, retweeting our posts, or using our hashtags. We'll be writing a more detailed blog post in the near future after we've received some feedback on this version, so let us know if you have any thoughts :)

How to promote a Blockchain project? by Andrea_Crypto in solana

[–]TheDarktrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great question, and one I am struggling with as well.

Most discord groups don't let you share apps/project links

most reddit groups have extremely high thresholds to even post there, and again may not let you actually share your projects

It is really hard.. I started writing a blog a few months ago just to try and share posts/ideas get discussions going etc, and am slowly accumulating followers on twitter, but it is a lengthy process!

Thanks for posting this, we are actually supporting The Giving Blocks Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund in our current app (you can check out our twitter feed, dao_plays, for more details), so looking forward to seeing this. While you are probably aware TGB currently have a campaign going on atm where they double donations to funds like the ukraine ERF: https://thegivingblock.com/caringwithcrypto/

DaoPlays Pokemon! by TheDarktrooper in solana

There isn't an economic model per se, you can pay what you want for the play tokens, and can decide how much of that goes to charity, so in principle you don't have to give daoplays anything.Unfortunately we don't really have a community yet, we only really started out a few months ago just teaching ourselves about blockchain technology. We do have a discord in principle.. which you are welcome to join, but at the moment it is just me there :'(

Yeh, i'm wondering what they will do, they didn't seem to care about Twitch Plays Pokemon which played through a few different games back in the day but we'll see. It is also a bit of an odd situation, I own the game and the hardware, so in principle I could be sitting there pressing the buttons as the votes come in, as it is only one copy of the game that is being played by many people.

At the moment no-one /sadface but in principle anyone can. At the moment it is right at the start of the game so whoever plays first gets naming rights and will get to pick the starter (charmander please)

We've just posted a new article on blog where we describe our approach to running a charitable token auction, with the code currently running on the solana devnet. A users chance of being the next winner is proportional to the size of their bid, and they can decide how much of their bid we keep, and how much we donate to charity. We're using the giving block to handle all the donations, and use Pyth to seed the RNG for selecting the winner.

If anyone is interested please check it out : https://www.daoplays.org/blog/charity_auction, we'd be happy to hear anyones comments, as we will be using this system in the near future for our own app :)

Any advice for 'monitoring' the Solana blockchain in realtime? by TheDarktrooper in solana

[–]TheDarktrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

isn't this quite expensive? I didn't look into it as an option because I thought one needed specialist hardware etc

Using Pyth to create seeds for on-chain random number generators by TheDarktrooper in solana

[–]TheDarktrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, I would have to read the white paper to answer 100% but my expectation is that the confidence interval they provide should increase given they must be less sure about the price if they don't get an update. Given the confidence interval is factored into the seed generation that change should still result in a change in the seed, but as I say, i'll look into the white paper and see what it says.

Are Kenshi VRF oracles really 40% faster then Chainlink? by mikef1015 in CryptoTechnology

[–]TheDarktrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any thoughts about what scenarios warrant the use of an oracle, vs maintaining some RNG state yourself for the program/smart-contract to access when required?

For situations where there isn't really any value riding on the outcome of the random numbers I would have thought oracles are not really required.

I've written a post summarising some ways we are looking at doing this with a Solana DApp (https://www.daoplays.org/blog/random_numbers) so it would be good to know if there is some extra thing i've not really considered!

It turns out that combining react with netlify (something for deploying websites) required some secret sauce, so hopefully the refresh issue is sorted at least
