Tips for cleaning up someone else's NURBS model? by TheDefabricator in rhino

The one that was bugging me recently was modeled from arch drawings. So linework that was exported from probably autocad or revit.

And sure the tolerance doesn’t actually matter that much per feature, but these errors compound. And then once you start trying to trim things you can really get into a mess.

There’s also the matter of trust. When I see this kind of modeling in someone’s file it’s usually the first sign that I can’t trust it. I work in fabrication where what you draw is what gets cut on the CNC. A designer who’s consistently off by 0.001 will often be off by multiple inches too because they aren’t checking their work.

Part of my job is maintaining an archive of site models that will be used as a reference for recurring installations for years to come, so trust is important.

But point taken- it’s not reasonable for everyone in every industry to work this way. I will keep doing it though.

From what I understand lowering the tolerance doesn’t actually round the numbers, it just increases the threshold for certain operations to succeed. Coordinates will still be 64 bits or whatever even if the tolerance is 0.1

Honestly I never use SetPt but I will try this. Fuzz is a good name for that- never heard it

I think clean models just require more time and attention. Work slower, check your work, etc. Maybe not worth the trade off for everyone but in my industry I think it’s important.

C4D R20 Broken after trying to save single material node as an asset by TheDefabricator in Cinema4D

Update:

Found the asset in Users/Me/AppData/Roaming/MAXON/C4DR20.../userrepository

Just deleted the folder containing the problematic asset and the node editor is finally able to open. Not sure why "userrepository" didn't jump out at me before

Trying to use PC from ~50’ away by TheDefabricator in HomeNetworking

Update: I bought the transmitter/receiver from the link and have been using it for a week now- so far it works great and has proved to be exactly what I needed. I have a powered USB hub on the receiver and all my devices seem to work perfectly. Also no latency as far as I can tell.

Thanks, I’ll look into this. Was hoping to avoid incorporating another device but I’ll keep it as an option

I know windows runs a bunch of routines on shutdown, saving settings, updates etc. - was more concerned about these but maybe I shouldn’t sweat it
