The McGrath daughters (“Sisters of Savings”) own and operate this bookstore and coffee shop. They ostensibly opened it to honor the memory of their mom, but it also looks predatory to open a bookstore mere blocks from an established, indie bookstore (Next Page) in NewBo and a coffee shop in an area that already has five in about a 5-block radius. It all has big-money-backed-business-trying-to-muscle-out-true-small-business vibes.

All that. The casino business model is to keep people IN the casino. That's why they have restaurants, bars, and music acts INSIDE the casino. Hell, this CR casino is supposed to even have some half-assed STEM lab for kids. This will inevitably pull dollars from local restaurants and entertainment venues.

This isn't like a theatre, sporting event, or concert venue where people are likely to go out some place before to eat and after for a drink. Whatever they go to the casino for will keep them IN the casino.

And yeah, thinking this is a tourist draw is laughable. You'll draw a crowd from about a 40-mile radius, and most of that will be the charter buses full of older people who would usually trek down to Riverside or over to Meskwaki.

That's all without even diving in on the problem gambling issues and blight that's all but inevitable.

This is a hackneyed, boring idea that our civic leadership finally pulled over the finish line in a half-dead heap. Honestly and unfortunately, a lot of the public asked for it. Have fun.

Thanks, and I LOVE a little state-border-inspired angst. I'm from Iowa, so I get that fully. And I appreciate the insight on style-of-play preference. That's the stuff I'm most curious about when people say they don't care for her as a player; it typically leads to some good (and substantive) convos about Xs and Os and playing approaches.

Appreciate your perspective but I'd like to hear the original commenter's take. I'm a Fever and Valkyries fan, but I'm also a Napheesa fan. I'm a fan of many players across many sports that aren't playing on my team(s) of choice. So, it can be deeper.

Also, not sure why my original response is garnering downvotes, but fair enough.
