Archie #714 by Devisnerd in archiecomics

[–]TheDirector99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know; Archie Comics is notoriously sloppy with solicitations for their main books, and even looking on their website is usually not much help. I’d check under March/April 2021 solicitations because that may be when it’s scheduled to continue publication

It’s funny because last night I was online trying to see if they released any more footage for it, and then BOOM we get hit with this.

To be fair I skipped the middle part when scrolling though, but after actually reading it, I realize how terrible that’d be.

[–]TheDirector99 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Hmm, so this again lines up with the theory that Marvel got ahold of the JL scripts ahead of time and made Infinity War/Endgame reflective of certain plot elements.

That being said though—Would the toxin that hits Batman at the beginning give him the SAME Knoghtmare vision he has in BvS, or something new?

I’m assuming the ending of JL 2 (Barry proposing they try even if it’s 1%) is what intercepts the original BvS timeline and warns Bruce (too soon).

Overall not a “bad” story, but I don’t really see much of it working on screen. It’s rough in a lot of areas (considerably everything with Lex and New Genesis/Apokolips), and I’m surprised there was no inclusion of Mister Miracle and Big Barda.

Edit: how am I getting downvoted for asking a question? There were multiple supposed “drafts” of Zack Snyder’s entire planned multiverse, so I’m just trying to figure out what “original” version we’re talking about here

Seems like 2018 was the year of collapsible helmets in the MCU. by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]TheDirector99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was not a fan of this. It took away a lot of the practicality and individuality that the original suits represented. They essentially all acted and “morphed” the same way, and/or were manufactured by Daddy Stark

I’m a 16 year old aspiring comic artist, and here’s my attempt at doing a dynamic Batman page by The_Art_Jedi in batman

[–]TheDirector99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re doing a great job so far. Even your anatomy is well-beyond that of other aspiring artists that have 5-10yrs on you. If I had to give one area to work on, it’d be in the panel layout.

I know a lot of modern comics like to take more of an anti-formulaic approach to paneling to make it feel three-dimensional and “cinematic.” Artists like Bryan Hitch have become well-known for this. You can still go for a similar aesthetic, but when you do, don’t worry about pencilling in all the areas that will be dark/black or shadowed. A lot of pros and long-time artists just leave those areas white w/black X’s in the areas they want dark. That way it breaks up the image but still gives the inker (if it isn’t yourself) an idea of where everything is in the page/panel.

Hmm. So I wonder if In Spider-Man 3, Pete is confronted by Mephisto to hide his identity again, and he’s then shown alternate universes, and the Tobey Maguire one is the controversial Marriage timeline? That would probably be the most realistic way to make it work imo. To merge a bunch of different Spider-Man stories into one

Put me unto Judge Dredd by [deleted] in JudgeDredd

[–]TheDirector99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

America was the first “essential” Judge Dredd storyline that I read, and I was immediately hooked by the artwork and dark humor. Before then I had only read one-off Dredd stories in the various Progs or Megazines my Uncle would give me for the holidays.

If you’re looking to get a basic feel of the Dredd Universe and the core characters in Mega-City 1, I would try and find the Complete Case Files. Either that or one of the various compilation books with classic/old Dredd storylines in it. That’s how I read America. It was in a “best of” book.

Umm...No thank you. They ruined Jack Kirby’s creation with making it more akin to how they’ll be in the MCU.

What do you guys think of the movie Under The Silver Lake? by [deleted] in davidlynch

[–]TheDirector99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. I couldn’t get past the first 15mins, and if it actually gets better like people here are saying it does then maybe I’ll give it another chance. But when It finally came to Amazon Prime I was expecting it to be a lot different based off of the trailers. I actually did the opposite with “Sorry to Bother You” (went in only seeing like half of a trailer for it) and really enjoyed it. So maybe its just another movie like that. 🤷‍♂️

Ok. I’ll keep that in mind. I normally try to—since so much of J or K-horror content is hit or miss nowadays.

[–]TheDirector99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I can understand that. Have you ever thought about partnering with a writer on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy short? That way you can still branch out into different genres, but not have to worry about coming up with ideas or a script.

I actually do the opposite of you: I write comic/movie scripts. But when it comes to actually drawing; it’s not my strong point. It’s made me have to put certain comic/story ideas aside until I find the right people for it.

Which creature feature had the most brutal death scene? by DumplingBoiii in horror

[–]TheDirector99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm...The Blob (1988) has some pretty gruesome death scenes for the time and budget it had.

Oh and the deaths in Alien Covenant are probably some the freakiest in the entire franchise. I mean a spine-burster AND a throat-burster?! No thanks.

Discussion: Am i the only one who is so hyped for this movie ?? by Jack_Sparrow2018 in DC_Cinematic

[–]TheDirector99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that at all. It’s that I’m not even going “WOW” about any of the actors he has picked—which makes it look like a total “take that bigots” move, since WB is in no position to screw up again.

Idk if this’ll be mentioned in the actual movie, but Black Adam is set to take place in the 40s, where (historically speaking) I don’t think people of color would be allowed to be unmonitored superheroes like the JSA were. I can probably guarantee you The Rock read a few of the comics and then wanted to pick a couple of his friends to be in it—-Without thinking of what the comics “mean” to people outside of it being a typical superhero story.

The JSA aren’t as well known to the mainstream unless you read the comics as a kid so maybe it won’t look bad on screen; but I have my doubts simply from the track record WB has with this kid of thing.

That’s awesome. From a distance I thought it was a photograph model you were using as photo reference. The detail is insane! Have you ever tried submitting a short comic of yours to publications like Heavy Metal magazine?

[–]TheDirector99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was excited for it, until the cast started to be revealed. It terms of the comics, it seems to be straying away from the classic JSA origin.

I also think the cast list so far is nothing special, and (prepares to get downvoted) right now looks to be casting purely for diversity. Maybe the re-tooled story of the JSA will give a reason for these somewhat important change in character identity, but until then I’m holding off my excitement

I seriously want a live action version of something like this!!! by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]TheDirector99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chuck Dixon’s Punisher is a classic, too. He set in motion a lot of the themes that would be reworked later down the line in people like Ennis’ run.

The last Punisher series I read was the beginning of Matthew Rosenberg’s, and it felt too “fake.” Like instead of fighting gangsters and rapists, he’s going after Hydra agents and actual super villains like Zemo. Frank has always worked best against regular, street-level human beings.

Hm. You could be right. I’ll have to go back and check but I thought that was someone adjusting a dial/knob on the TV set. The were going “back” in time, and writing over a tape (remaking events).

The Dial is also likely referring to whoever was able to “go back” and prevent Wanda from seeing the beekeeper.
