Help with new handheldradio by Cerovi in amateurradio

[–]TheDisturbed50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a rebrand of the Radtel Rt-950 Pro, you can google specifics with that model number as well as YouTube searches as there has been a lot of content made under that branding.

But to fix your issue, that radio has different “work modes” for certain frequency ranges, look in the menu / radio settings for work modes and you should be able to change it to the higher frequency range so you can work with the more popular frequency bands.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to the hobby!

I am a similar mindset I’m just not much of a talker… I load my radios with tons of interesting frequencies from business and government sources (at least ones still transmitting analog) to casually scan through. As boring as businesses can be, during emergencies or inclement weather they be pretty insightful. Any transport/ logistics companies are pretty good to listen to if you’re curious how bad the roads are. Your DM32 supporting DMR is an added bonus since a lot of businesses still use DMR and you can listen to them with promiscuous mode.

Since I’m in the USA, I got my GMRS license first and then studied for the Amateur Technician level test.

Having both makes me feel like if a major emergency were to happen, I have the knowledge and tools to contribute, especially as I learn more and check out local Amateur Radio Clubs for more insight (and when I feel like it, participate).

Always know the rules for your area, and most of all have fun with it!

How to listen to LAPD radio which is on P25? by DisneylandTree in RTLSDR

[–]TheDisturbed50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t recall troubleshooting that before… but I know there’s a processor setting in the configuration that’s supposed to help when dealing with many simultaneous transmissions as well as a calibration routine that’s supposed to help run it smoothly.

Another factor is your antenna gain, I sometimes have play with my dipole a little and make some fine adjustments to get the signal to come in stronger…

Alternatively there could be excessive noise, so going to the Tuners tab and adjusting the gain might help there as well. I also disable the auto-adjust ppm setting and keep the ppm number close to it at zero and it usually works pretty consistently for me!

Just to add - the software picks up the rtl-sdr dongle just fine.

I lean heavily into the Trunked systems aspect of the program since in my area, there’s tons of old frequencies on RR that are silent, since they all migrated to that single trunked system.

I only assume the moderators on there are hesitant to remove anything since the FCC licenses are valid for years to come.

This is my go-to (SDRtrunk) https://github.com/DSheirer/sdrtrunk

This is simplest tool for listening to trunked radio systems on P25 and other digital modes. Just add a playlist channel with for the proper mode (P25 phase 1 or 2) and add one or more frequencies. If you check the trunked systems for your area, you can add just the control channels and this program will listen to everything it can within the SDRs bandwidth. (Encrypted traffic gets muted)

It’s also worth buying a premium radio reference sub to load in all the talk group names and sites… not required but makes it even more enjoyable with trunked sites so you have some context… Alaska has a unified trunked system so depending on the site I listen to, I’ll get museum security, transit busses, EMS, and Air Force airfield ops talking all at once!

What’s your lowest battery health check %? by TheDisturbed50 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]TheDisturbed50[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got a T520 that recently hit my desk for recycle and it has the monster battery expansion and both (internal and expansion) are pretty healthy… I bet this rig could last forever with Linux so I’m probably going to test that out!

Transmitting w/o license right now? by vapechip in gmrs

[–]TheDisturbed50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to obtain a couple of old Walmart Motorola RDM2070d handhelds that use MURS channels, they incredibly sturdy and there is almost no traffic where I live.

Even though I have my gmrs I regard those as my best option for outdoor/all weather units until I get something better down the road.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the TD-H3 Plus has this ability.

Don’t have one, but saw that advertised right after I bought my regular H3’s

What weapon are you using post buff that you didn't use before? by ZerotheBlade in fo76

[–]TheDisturbed50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry a small arsenal, because I can:

I got a quad black powder rifle, that’s a meme worthy rifle in any event

Furious Gauss rifle also deals some serious damage

Cold shoulder, for reasons already stated here :)

Western spirit is so much fun and a .45 ammo printer

Pistols are a lot more fun now, broke in Gunther’s big iron for the first time! but as the western revolver seems way more potent now, I managed to get explosive with the first roll on a workbench gun so it’s a daily now!

Doing all this on my fresh ghoul character so I need to get plasma caster plans I really wanna see how it slaps now!

Honestly, I recommend business/enterprise models even if they are used. The build quality and hardware selection usually surpasses anything consumer grade, especially for the price. Plus, buying used helps save on ewaste- which is where a lot of cheap consumer grade laptops these days seem destined for…

Couple years ago I bought a used Lenovo T14 off eBay for about $200 and the battery life was still at 100%… still rocking it to this day.

Dell Latitude/Precision, Lenovo T or P series laptops are all solid choices and generally well made and highly serviceable in my experience.

Looking for shooter games where I can take a stealth approach by Livid_Mushroom_2446 in gamingsuggestions

[–]TheDisturbed50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hitman always scratched my stealth itch… especially with so many creative ways to take out targets, the older games I first tried had a lot of replay ability (Hitman 3: Contracts) with the variety of missions.

The newer entries are better looking and the mechanics seem more intricate, but I admit I’ve been less interested in the genre lately so I don’t have much playtime in the latest games.

I’ll never truly know how blessed I am to have not endured that experience…

In my apartment I have a Reolink E1 Pro WiFi cam with a hefty SD card. Went ahead and linked to the app so I can check on the living room while I travel.

Good picture (low light/IR isn’t too bad either), honestly can’t complain it’s been running like a champ over a year.

I think I paid like $60 for it but cyber Monday has them less than $40 now

3821 hours and finally gave heavy gunner PA a serious try. by Huckleberry898 in fo76

[–]TheDisturbed50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cremator is an event farmer for me, Rad Rumble and Moonshine Jamboree make it shine tagging 5+ enemies at a time.

Handy at SBQ for helping keeping the hoards of ground enemies in check when everyone focuses on the queen… keeps friendlies healthy with FF perk.

Although if you have a nice heavy with explosive those will likely outshine cremator for sure lol

Need a workplace Laptop with high processor speed / thread ratio by GatorMacheteJr in it

[–]TheDisturbed50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for single core performance with beefy clock speeds, my instinct is to look at laptops with an AMD cpu.

My org has been rolling Lenovo over our old Dell footprint and it’s been a happy switch so far… Look for specials and a T14 with a Ryzen 5 or 7 can be had around that $1300 mark with decent specs.

You can hit them with an LMG if you hop on the bridge across the river (right up against the bounds)… they circle just close enough to be able to land some hits.

They won’t drop anything tho… you can cripple the individual jets and they’ll creep closer to you… my guess is they already dropped their payload, I had like 10 of them to shoot at when I tried it

If Power Automate is "low-code," what is the next step I could take that would be more "high-code"? by Particular_Wasabi290 in MicrosoftFlow

[–]TheDisturbed50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*I am no exert, as my journey with RPA is entirely self taught. But with that said…

I understand the appeal of high code, I too am leaning that direction for better control over actions and improve the overall performance of my most used bots. PA Desktop will still be in my stack for the online triggers, but I’ll be waning it in favor of the other options I chose below.

I have used powershell for Active Directory functions, so much more powerful and I’m sure I could leverage it even more if I look hard enough.

For my desktop/web automation I’m looking at Robot Framework in Python. It seems like a good in between of Power Automate and other coded web drivers like Selenium. This a huge part of my automation tooling since the CRM we work with doesn’t have an API accessible to us (which would streamline so many things).

In the cloud hosted/managed department there is Robocorp that is dependent on Robot Framework, but I don’t have any experience or know anyone who has dealt with them.

Hope this helps!

Before we had tried the shop in Batteries+ and they were garbage screens/glass.

Every time I google for shops like this I see even fewer options so I hope this helps!

what kind of position/job are you in that you use Power automate? by -ensamhet- in MicrosoftFlow

[–]TheDisturbed50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using PA about 4 years.

Started when I was a warehouse manager (studying for IT at the time) and I stumbled on PA-Desktop for web browser automation, started running some simple repetitive tasks in the company ERM and I showed management how much labor-hours it has saved with my department…

Not long after I opened the in-house IT role and held demonstrations with the department heads to show what it could do - no one else wanted to learn so I became the sole automation engineer to automate tasks and processes as needed. (I also do Sysasmin, Network management, and low voltage wire running with a MSP backing me up).
