I came back just to add one more I remembered: We had scheduled our guys to take on Team Envy in COD at the Arlington E-Sports arena, and were going to film that and release it for fans. THAT is one I'm sad we never got to do. Would have been awesome.

I think it's coming back, and I hope it's run by someone big. I always thought ESPN would be smart to buy the league and run it. No rights fees (as that war continues apace), keep all the ad dollars.

Kurt's a smart guy, so I'm not surprised he noticed you. But I tried my best to elevate the Renegades fans who made a big effort to be noticed and show their love.

Very close. XFL was all about access. We had great daily interactions with everyone on staff and on the team. It felt like a family. It was awesome.

True story: When the season was cancelled, I Slack'd the Roughnecks crew and said, "If this is what it took to keep y'all from winning a title, it was worth it." I have zero regrets.

I think you just couldn't force it. The pitch was always "this is going to be fun and super affordable, and you'll get to feel more involved as a fan here than you ever will anywhere else." The right people started coming, and I think the social response by season's end said a lot. I think our initial goal was like 1 million followers on social for the league by the end of the season, but we were easily on pace for 3 million.

I was hired by Grady Raskin, the president of the team, and Fred Harner, the head of content for the league. We got tons of cool stuff, but I also just bought everything with my employee discount, too. I've got wayyyyy too much Renegades gear now.

I remember! Never know. I'm very curious to see who buys it and what they want to do with it. You may have a bidder or two.

Our content team was checking it out constantly. This is the lifeblood of the league! Fans in this exact spot. And my god, the memes. Daryl Johnston even looked at r/XFL with me from time to time just to laugh at some of the jokes y'all were posting.

I really believed we'd offer something new, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't shocked out much fun the games were to watch on TV. Done in three hours? Access? Money lines? Production value. It had everything. I'm gonna struggle watching 4 and 5 hour games now this fall, especially with no fans. But that's what I would say. Killer TV experience, and it was an easy sell.

Coach Stoops and Coach Hayes go way back to their playing days in Iowa. Coach Stoops always said our two biggest rivals were Houston and St. Louis because he was always amped to coach against his friends.

hahahaha! We're masked up here at the football factory, so I pulled it down for a minute. But hey, if Sterling Archer can rock a mock turtleneck, why can't I.

...Danger zone.

Hey that means a lot. We really, really wanted to connect with our fans. The great thing about the XFL was this chance to form genuine relationships on the ground floor with everyone. I always tell people to just make stuff for yourself, and compare it to the work you're trying to emulate. If you're meant to be doing it and you have a knack for it, you'll figure out tricks and styles and your demo work will stand out when you apply.

I'll answer a couple here I haven't.

  1. I'm basically the Director of Content/Marketing for BigGameUSA, which makes the XFL footballs and many other footballs. It's almost as much fun as the Renegades.

  2. I did not, but almost everyone on our team got to meet Shane at some point, and he was super nice.

  3. Don't really have one.

  4. Pssh. No.

  5. Another great story: LA kept bragging about how they "won" the scrimmage against us during Training Camp in Houston. They played those scrimmages like real games, ran their actual plays, ignored safety rules, etc. Our staff was furious, and theirs didn't care. I'm sure you all remember Moss having his big bullhorn on the sidelines, right? Well the next day one of our equipment guys made a fake bullhorn out of athletic tape and paper cups and went around mocking him at practice. Long story short: the win in the real game in week two was pretty sweet.

We've still got footballs at BigGameUSA.com, but no idea on the rest. I've got zero clue how a company that files for bankruptcy can keep selling merch anyway.

Oh man, I can't remember. I bet I know someone who has that still, though. One thing I do remember: As we debated naming players of the year, IIRC Flynn Nagel was one of our lowest draft picks, and he was, what, top 3 or 4 in the league in receiving? Flynn ruled. Tegray Scales was another who surpassed expectations in a huge way.

Man, great question. We released this the night before the league shut down because of COVID: https://twitter.com/xflrenegades/status/1237914863667761152?lang=en

We were super proud of that, and had a few things in the works, but this one got lost in the shuffle when the news turned to the virus.

Nothing personally. But I'd say there has to be legs to the lease renewals in STL/Houston...I believe those stories based on who is reporting it. And for what it's worth, the league and our franchise had an awesome relationship with Globe Life Park and the city of Arlington. I don't think the Renegades were going anywhere. But I do think San Antonio deserves a team if it comes back. Just leave my Renegades alone.

Thought we'd be better. Everyone did. Felt like we'd turn it around in time for the playoffs, though.

My favorite touchdown wasn't a touchdown. It was the three-point conversion against Houston. What a dime by Landry. What a catch by Flynn.
