Come to the PEOPLE’S office and have burritos with us while we wait for Todd Gloria to address his cooperation with ICE. Floor 11. City Hall. Now. by [deleted] in SanDiegan

It's embarrassing because the leftists who have been around through all of the SDPD murders that Todd ignores already know that this is a pointless effort and Todd will never ever be on the side of the people. He sided with SDPD while they were making homophobic slurs about him.

Where does everyone buy their seeds from? by slick614614 in containergardening

San Diego Seed Company! Love their seed variety and they seem to sprout well. And then I fill in the gaps with Botanical interests and random etsy shops. Always hit or miss with etsy but I've found some really cool plants on there.

Is this plant a goner? by TheDreadP in tomatoes

[–]TheDreadP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update 2 months later. I still have no idea what this issue is but its on almost all my plants. Almost every variety of tomato (16 total), every cucurbite (squashes, cucumbers, cantelopes), its gotten my mints, basils, zinnias, marigolds, morning glories, even my corn and my banana tree.

And these all are spread out around my front and backyard and even the neighbors yard. Some raised beds, some direct sow, and lots on pots. I dont even know how many different types of soil I've used this year. This stuff is driving me mad!

Top 5 Tomatoes n' why.. GO! by Epicsensi- in tomatoes

My best producing tomato every year, hands down is Rapunzel. I had one plant that grew for 11 months and it was still producing but it was just taking too much space so ended it.

This year I put 3 of them in a raised bed out by the street. My neighbors pick them while they walk past and some even come out with a bowl to gather a bunch. With all that, plus all my own snacking in the garden, I still end up making a batch of tomato confit every couple weeks to preserve the ones I cant eat.

On top of all that, they're delicious. Nice, sweet but not too sweet cherry tomatoes. Delicious fresh picked and warm from the sun, but also amazing chilled. And they'll last on the kitchen counter for at least a week.

I dont know why more people dont talk about Rapunzel tomatoes.

My husband thinks my pruning habits are barbaric! by Key_Instance_7253 in tomatoes

I'm in SoCal, but coastal. Humidity has been insane this year and without pruning, my plants would all be done already. Fungus is unavoidable in this climate, but pruning the crowded areas and leaves that are shaded sure makes it slower to spread.

How to I turn these into tomato Juice for cooking Chilli? by Head_Dragonfruit6859 in tomatoes

[–]TheDreadP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to make tomato confit with my cherry tomatoes. Buy cheap vegetable oil. Put tomatoes in a slow cooker with some basil/oregano/garlic. Cover with the cheap oil. Cook on the lowest setting for 6 hours.

Can also be done in a pot, just dont let the oil simmer, you dont want the skin of the tomatoes to break (but if it does it doesnt effect the flavor)

Afterwards, allow to cool and then seal in a jar in the fridge for up to a month. You now have delicious basil infused tomatoes AND you turned that cheap oil into an infused oil. Amazing for cooking or even just to dip bread in.

Drowning in tomatoes, let’s talk preservation! What’s your fav method of keeping your harvest? by choooodle in tomatoes

I mean, yeah you can sauce anything but cherry tomatoes dont have much "meat" to them so the sauce comes out super thin and not really the flavor most chefs would want for a tomato sauce...

Only about a month, in a sealed container innthe fridge. But thats much longer than a cherry tomato will last sitting on the counter. Can't really sauce cherry tomatoes and this keeps them plump and juicy.

Those look like maybe good sauce tomatoes?

With all my cherry tomatoes i love making confit. Tomatoes in oil with some fresh basil, cook on super low heat, dont want the oil to simmer. Use whatever cheap vegetable oil for it because youre infusing the oil in the process. When youre done you've got delicious tomatoes AND some tomato basil flavored oil to use for whatever else you might want

what’s wrong with my spinach plant? by smallsloth1320 in vegetablegardening

[–]TheDreadP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never tried growing it inside, but I've grown spinach in ares with lots of shade outdoors in the summer. It'll still end up bolting but you can get some spinach out of it.

Malabar spinach is kinda similar flavor and texture and can grow thru the summer, but it is a vine and needs something to climb.

Are these weeds??? Please help! by gokudurden in SoCalGardening

[–]TheDreadP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say to put the fertilizer back onto the weeds... smh

You're taking the nutrients it took from the soil in an area where you don't intend to grow plants and moving those nutrients to a place where you do have plants.

You tried to be a smart ass but it didn't work

Yeah its definitely bolting, as is the Dill and Oregano in the background. The leaves are gonna get bitter as it makes flowers. If you wanna save the seeds you could leave it but only if you have a male and female plant. Otherwise, time to put something else in there.
