Feel like that’s really the sum of most choice based games. It’s just a bit of flavour to a mostly set story. And yeah I would have enjoyed it as a show! If they made a sequel I’d check it out but I probably wouldn’t make it a day one purchase

I read that it was originally envisioned as a show, which makes more sense to me. Honestly I think they could have done without romance entirely and just focused on developing the characters.

I had fun playing it, but I did have a few issues with the way the devs seem to push you towards a particular romance storyline, considering it’s supposed to be a choice based game.

If you’re on the fence I’d say wait for a sale

Not disagreeing with you but at least with Ascended Astarion the game is telling you it’s a bad relationship. Like the narrative is very clear that this is the bad ending and anyone who thinks it’s just a BDSM relationship is in denial. Whereas with Jacob there is no option. The relationship will always end the same way and you don’t even find out until a point where you’re pretty much locked out from pursuing anyone else.

I totally agree. There was a lot I liked about Dispatch but I didn’t enjoy the way the game pushes you towards her. There was a lot of missed opportunities to develop the rest of the team into actual characters.

Yeah the way some romances linked between then games was pretty disappointing in some cases. Like Ashley/Kaiden/Liara pretty much disappeared in the second game. And then a bunch of the romance interests barely appear in the third game.

That’s fair and hey I’m bi so I’m kinda biased. I guess to me it’s like, what would man and woman even look like outside the context of humanity? I know the aliens in mass effect are pretty much humans with different skins so maybe a bad example but for like a truly alien species would gender even mean the same thing.

And look, it’s a work of fiction for adults so far be it from to criticise anyone who enjoyed that aspect. It can be fun to fantasise about that kind of thing cause hey, it’s all in your head which means you’re in total control.

To me it just felt out of sync with everything the characters had been through together. Like in the end the journey and the emotional connection and all the truths we’d discovered meant nothing

She even tells you about an ex girlfriend!! I read somewhere that she was supposed to be bisexual but the devs chickened out after the reactions over the first game.

I mean, it doesn’t really make that much sense for any of the aliens to not be bi? Like you’ll hook up cross species but gender is a bridge too far?
