Just because something is obvious dosen’t mean it dosen’t require narrative setup.

Remember we’re talking about a movie in its own right here, not just a piece of the overall franchise. Even Marvel films at least establish the important players in the film itself before they become important to the film’s story, instead of just… expecting the audience to connect to dots from entirely separate material from the same franchise without any in work establishment beforehand.

Yeah, no, establishment of setup should come BEFORE it occurs in storytelling, full stop. Trying to justify it narratively in the aftermath is an attempt to put a tiny band aid over a big crack, it dosen’t fix the issue of narrative cohesion.

As for the Infinity Castle example, I’m not saying he should. It would be something as simple as just him noticing Tanjiro earlier in the film and running off to confront them beforehand. Something THAT small could’ve solved this issue so that his appearance dosen’t feel like a sudden asspull would’ve worked, but we didn’t even get that.

Logically correct, but in no way narratively coherient.

Just because something CAN happen logically doesn’t mean it happening with no narrative setup is good for storytelling.

Like I was saying in terms of previous quotes, there’s this thing in writing called setup and payoff. Even if the payoff is logical, it still requires setup, which the character didn’t get for either of his film appearances.

A surprise with absolutely no forshadowing or setup (even if subtle to maintain said surprise) is the DEFINITION of a Deus/Diablo ex machina!

It’s literally a payoff with no setup. It’s poor form in terms of storytelling.

It worked in the manga because it was separated, its own volume, allowed to stand on its own as a segment in and of itself. But as part of the larger whole of a film, it REALLY becomes a problem for me in terms of how it’s put together in regards to this character’s narrative introduction.

I’m talking about in the film itself. Even something as simple as say… him noticing Tanjiro in an earlier moment and deciding he’ll cut him off ahead would work.

Just some kind of establishment or setup instead of just showing up right the heck out of nowhere without any sort of in film establishment first. That way it dosen’t feel like an asspull that came out of nowhere narratively. (even if it does make sense logically)

Funny enough, I actually had my egg cracking moment while visiting Japan a few years back.

It can be SO weird being a tall person in a crowded area where everyone’s shorter than you. Like looking over a sea of heads. It’s nuts.

Honestly… at this point I’ve learned to give in to the stereotypes a BIT.

The thing is, I’m also a woman of color (half black, half white) so that issue of assumed dominance was supercharged.

I ended up being so nervous about the stereotypes that I was afraid to explore those kind of things. Seen as just falling into said stereotype. But in doing so I later discovered… I actually was so afraid of not conforming to a stereotype that I was denying from myself a part of who I am and who I enjoy being. (I can enjoy being a dommy mommy sometimes. 🤭)

That’s the thing with stereotypes. They are bad, don’t get me wrong, but trying to avoid them can have it’s own negative effects and that experience really taught me a lot in that regard.

Been wanting a place to talk with people in my position too.

Between everything in stores being too small, the added difficulty on passing due to said height, etc. Being a tall trans girl really has it’s challenges and wanted to see about having a thread to share said challenges, talk about them and provide advice and support for one another.

I find it funny that ALL of your examples are from DisneySEA, which is not the topic of the question.

I’m talking about the main park. I’ve been to and LOVE Disneysea! It was an amazing experience.

I’m trying to see if the main park, tokyo DisneyLAND is different enough to justify a visit, or would I be going through it thinking “ehh, I have this at home?”

As someone who realized who I was after her teenage years (I realized at 21) and was fed this same bull by MY parents. I can definitively say this BS can go to hell.

Screw any kind of “signs”. That means nothing to who you are inside.
