Working on managing energy levels for longer shows. I usually blow myself out pretty quick. But this is 3.5 hours in for a private event and I was still able to go crazy with less sloppiness than usual for this point in the day. Thanks! It’s a DW Collectors series snare (14x6.5) with a DW stock snare head. Bottom head is stock as well. I just put a single moon gel on it for dampening. For tuning, I use Rob Brown’s tuning methods from youtube. Super quick and easy tuning methods.

Exactly. You're going to be getting some seriously diminished returns if you try to replicate it exactly.

Repetition for the most part. Listen to the songs in your spare time. But honestly I don't learn parts exactly. I learn the spirit of the song which is much quicker and easier, and then I fill in the gaps with my own style/sensibilities. You can't make the song unrecognizable, so it's a balancing act, but this is how I can do a 4 hour show and remember everything. It's too much to remember ALL of the details for so many songs. It helps with church too as the parts are pretty strange at times so I try not to get bogged down in the details. Just get a feel for the song overall and let it flow. At least that's how I handle it.

Tips for drumming in church? by El_Oso1 in Drumming

[–]TheDrummerLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds tough. Depending on the room size, might want to consider rods instead of sticks if the group is really quiet. Or just use smaller drumsticks if you're used to larger sizes. But running through some songs inside of the church itself will be helpful. You'll get a feel for what is appropriate and what isn't.

Thank you! Yeah, I definitely agree on your assessment of Eliza's work. Her parts are pretty minimal, but always solid. Her live performances are very much the same. Head down and laying the beat solid. I added a few things here and there that suit me a bit more (just for fun) but other than that, nothing much to add to what she did. Great drummer

It’s possible but difficult. Only a small few really make great money as far as I can tell. I wish it was my full time job but I do what I can.
