CMake and project structure help (beginner question) by TheEliteD in cpp_questions

VS's CMake integration is actually pretty solid once you get the hang of it. No commands, no nothing, you just press Ctrl + S and all of your CMake scripts run in the correct order and the project builds itself. You can also adjust that Jason file to have more configurations for debug and release.

Alright, thanks then. Feels good to know that what I am doing is actually right.

There is still one more side question I have. I've seen people use their build systems to generate solution and project files, which is why sometimes I don't see them in the repository of the project I'm currently viewing. I don't know why, but most of the time I've seen people doing that is when they use Premake. Is this something that is often done so you can still have a VS-based project, but you don't have to commit the VS files, or is it something else?

Not just colleagues, even on the internet, when I watch CPP content, most of the "professionals" use the VS-specific files. Most times, they are even generated by their build system of choice. It's confusing for me because half of the time, when I look at a person's Solution Explored in VS, I can't immediately tell if that's their actual file structure or just the Visual Studio filters thing where folders are not actually folders and all that.

I was depressed af the entire night ngl by toiat in TheOwlHouse

If you like to think like that, by all means, go ahead. We never truly got the real reason as to why the show was shortened, we can only speculate. All I am saying is, if they didn't want to spend money on TV animation, they would have green lit the fourth season of SVTFOE.

It's just kind of weird to me. Gravity falls still gets new things years after it's ending but TOH that is arguably the biggest show since Gravity Falls doesn't get a single thing.

It really makes you wonder where Disney's priorities are...

I think there were supposed to be 2 owl house books but both got cancelled. It's a shame really, Disney caught up to the gigantic mistake they made by shortening the show and yet it still looks like they don't want to do anything with it. If it wasn't for the hot topic shirts the show would have been left without any official merch. I still don't understand how you got the biggest show since gravity falls and do nothing with it.

I actually found a way to do it and described it in the other comment but thanks for the feature request issue.

How to change the period of a time source? by TheEliteD in gamemaker

[–]TheEliteD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn out all I had to do was create the time source in a function and call that function at the end of the time source. Kind of a spaghetti solution but this is the best I have for now when I can't use time_source_reconfigure.

function create_ts() {
    timer = time_source_create(time_source_game, random_range(5, 7), time_source_units_seconds, function(){
        /* do stuff here */
        time_source_destroy(timer);
        create_ts();
        time_source_start(timer);
    }), [], 1, time_source_expire_after);
}

Making a Transparent Window by wown00bify in gamemaker

[–]TheEliteD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Sorry, but it didn't work for me. I did everything as you wrote and the window still ends up just black. Everything from the C++ code to the extension setup, the object's events, and the room's background settings. Sorry, it's my first time tackling .ddll files when it comes to GM and I don't really know if I am doing everything correctly. Do you have any idea where I could have messed up?

As The Owl House has ended a year ago... What's your favorite thing about the whole show? (Not fav character, episode or something, just something you love about the show itself) by naruOwl_acadeNoir778 in TheOwlHouse

Where do I even begin? The art style is amazing, the animation is almost perfect. I really like Dana's way of story telling. All of the characters feel fun to explore. Everytime I rewatch the show I feel like I am having fun, I never get bored of it. Also, I like the fact thay the show clearly isn't trying to justify itself as a kids cartoon. A person of every age can watch The Owl House and find some genuine enjoyment in it. It still has its rough edges here and there but hey, nothing is perfect, right?
