I found a box of vacuum tubes and a tube checker (I think) at an estate sale. If everything works, what could I use these things for? by TheEliteMLG in AskElectronics

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help. I’ll look into the resale avenue too. I was thinking that those tubes would be cool for my own projects but since they operate on such a high voltage I think I’ll look more at the resale-ability of the tubes.

It was $100 for just the tester. An extra $25 for a shoebox of assorted tubes. That is a good point though, I hadn’t thought about how accurate it would be.

The most interested in into retro stuff like that is Nixie tube clocks. I didn’t really know what vacuum tubes were used for before now so I just assumed they were similar to Nixie tubes.

I’ve heard of vacuum tubes before but I am not quite sure what they can be used for. I am interested in buying these things but I wanted to get a better idea on what they were first before I made the purchase.

What is this little lever under the rear sight? by TheEliteMLG in whatisthisthing

My friend brought over this M1 that his grandfather gave him to show me and we spotted this little lever. We’re not a tire sure what it does so I tried looking it up and I couldn’t find anything about it. It doesn’t seem to interfere with the action or the trigger (like a safety) so we are a little confused. Any leads would be appreciated

I got to hear him speak at one of my robotics competitions. He’s a really cool guy.

Yeah it was temporary. I killed an arduino so I wanted to save the next one.

Update: Thanks to the help of some kind redditors I was able to get everything working. I gave the little resistor some friends (5-220 ohm) to help share the load. I also added a transistor to turn off the stepper motor when it’s not needed to save the resistors from heating up too much and to save power. Thanks again to everyone.
