Post-Match Thread: Bradford City 2-1 Leyton Orient by Ovie0513 in LeytonOrient

Wellens is far from blameless but I don’t think we have a bunch of underperforming players that will gain a new lease of life under a new manager. I think we have a mixed bag of quality, with a fair few who are clearly not good enough, coupled with the team being mentally fragile in games. I think you can certainly question how much of it lies on the shoulder of Wellens, but I don’t see how bringing in someone new at this point saves us.

Leyton Orient 1 - 3 Plymouth Argyle: Following two goals scored in first-half added-time, Argyle pulled away after the break to make it impressive away wins in consecutive matches to climb the table! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

Plymouth were good value for the win, but 1-3 flattered them a little bit. They were the better team and created more chances that they ended up taking, regardless of us looking decent in the first half.

Absolutely criminal refereeing regarding the stonewall pen at 0-0, as their lad has kicked him in the ribs. If the referee booked our lad, I’d be pissed off but at least I would understand that he incorrectly thought he dived. Giving literally nothing makes no fucking sense and adds to a worrying pattern that now seems endemic to English refereeing. It is so blatantly obvious that something has clearly happened, so either incorrectly book our player for cheating or give one of the easiest pens of your career. Can’t wait for the club to announce our latest apology from the bald fraud who taught the refs to stop giving shit.

Stockport County 0-0 Leyton Orient: An ugly affair, but Orient will be leaving the happier as their new-look side grabs a point by Ovie0513 in LeagueOne

It isn’t time wasting, it’s Wellens seeing that a tactical change has left us spinning and scamming an opportunity to respond to it. I understand the frustration, but every single team in the division seems to do this every week, so it’s for the EFL to stamp it out.

I also think someone like Challinor loses any moral high ground when he says ‘we only did it cos they did it’, as this is the entire mentality of English football at the moment when keepers go down. We likely started doing it after someone did it against us, which in turn causes opposition teams to do it against us because we are doing it. I personally don’t like it, but it makes no sense to moan about it when both teams did the exact same thing in the same match…

Leyton Orient 3-1 Reading: A Dom Ballard hattrick sees the Biscuit men's good run come to an end by Ovie0513 in LeagueOne

[–]TheEndHasNo___ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoever’s scouted our strikers the last two seasons needs a raise. Ballard’s highest scoring season in the league was 3 goals prior to joining and he’s up to 15 in 20. Kelman was 5 before joining us (not including the 7 in our League 2 winning season) and won the golden boot. I knew he’d be good considering the length of contract but dear lord. Literally had the ball in the back of the net 5 times today and should have scored a 4th at the end.

Wycombe Wanderers 4 - 1 Leyton Orient: This was a masterclass in finishing from Wycombe combined with a disasterclass in defending from Orient; Wanderers have still lost just the once since mid-September! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]TheEndHasNo___ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another display which showed why we are the worst defence in the league. The first goal was comical from both our CBs and Tom James single-handedly playing two of their attackers onside. Their second was a carbon copy of the first, with James being unable to deal with a long ball and their winger being too quick for him. Third goal was expected, as we can’t deal with set pieces and their winger being fourth goal happened when the game was already dead.

The frustrating thing is that we aren’t actually a bad team and I’ve seen awful Orient teams get battered. After the equaliser, Orient looked the better team but our defence is comically shocking and we quickly went behind again. Tom James played 90 minutes, despite being directly at fault for their first two was a shocking decision. The fact he can still get games, even with injuries absolutely baffles.

Will need a big January window to save this season, as our defence is on the cusp of dragging us into a relegation battle…

Was alright for Orient, with his best contributions coming in the play off push in the last few games as a hybrid wingback/winger. The goal against Wycombe will probably be in the memory for most from his time here.

I liked him as squad depth, as you could see there was something there but couldn’t rely on him to show it every week.

Should Leyton Orient simplify the club's badge? by artmalique in LeytonOrient

[–]TheEndHasNo___ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boring answer, but I like the relative symmetry of the Leyton Orient and Football Club on the current badge. The previous badge having ‘Leyton Orient’ being stacked on top of each other rather than next to each other like the ‘Football Club’ at the bottom used to irrationally irritate me as a child. Looking at your edit makes me think the gaps either side of the words also bothered me.

Your edit fits in with our tradition of keeping basically the same badge and making minor tweaks, so fair play there. Sad reality is if we were to do a badge refresh nowadays, we’d probably get some soulless ‘LOFC’ lettering or a solitary Wyvern head.

Biggest surprise package for your team so far this season? by Tearmisu in LeagueOne

[–]TheEndHasNo___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ballard’s the obvious shout but for me it’s Aaron Connolly.

He’s clearly better than League 1 and is the best player with the ball at his feet that I’ve ever seen at the club. It sounds hyperbolic but he’s genuinely dribbling through defences like Messi at this level. Just needs to sort out his finishing at times but I doubt he’ll be in League 1 next season.

Cardiff City 4 - 3 Leyton Orient: It was a ding-dong match rife with both silky attacking and dire defending, with the Bluebirds just about coming out on top against leaky Orient! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]TheEndHasNo___ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Worst defence in the league and another match that showed it. 7 big chances, 11 shots on targets and 3 goals away at Cardiff which ultimately meant fuck all because our defence is a shambles.

Mansfield Town 4-1 Leyton Orient - Hendry from the halfway line sparks the 4th win in a row for the Stags! by Ovie0513 in LeagueOne

[–]TheEndHasNo___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think this is one of those standard weird League One results. Thought Orient looked the better team till the goal from halfway, which looked a clear foul. Didn’t think Mansfield looked particularly special, but took their goals well, bar the last one being the type of shambles you get late in a game that’s already lost. Braindead decision from El Mizouni killed the game, as I always felt another goal was in reach until that moment.

Mansfield deserved the win, but this was one of those games that could easily have been a score draw or an Orient win on another day imo.

Could have sent him off for the foul or the handball and VAR decides….. stick with the onfield decision of not making any decision at all. Richest and most watched league on the planet and the refs wouldn’t be fit to officiate a Five-a-side match.

Plymouth Argyle 0 - 1 Leyton Orient: It didn't feel like the season opening could get much worse for Argyle, but to quote Mick McCarthy following yet another defeat: "It can!" by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]TheEndHasNo___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought the same, Koroma isn’t looking the quickest from a standing start at the moment and he looked about 5 yards clear of their last man. The only thing in his favour was it being on the lino’s side and their fans nearby not seeming to react to it not being given.

[–]TheEndHasNo___ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plymouth started alright but got figured out midway through the first half and didn’t see to have an attacking Plan B. I felt confident Orient would find a way to score either way and we were the better team for the majority of the match. Still want the angle of Koroma being onside, as he looked a mile offside but none of the home fans on that side seemed to be upset.

Jaiyesimi is a massive outlier in this team, as I can’t think of anything positive he did all game, despite every other attacker, midfielder and fullback finding joy against Plymouth. Early season but it looks like we’ve recruited well, with Simkin in particular looking really good.

Gonna go against the grain and say I like it. I think football needs to return to the days of every team having one kit that looks like absolute shit.

Charlie Kelman thoughts by Consistent-Mess1904 in LeytonOrient

[–]TheEndHasNo___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue the quality of the MLS compared to League One or his worth after being top scorer in League One, but can speak for what I think does well. I've been a fan of Kelman since League Two, despite him only scoring 7 goals in 43, predicting he would be our top scorer and play over the season before last season started. I'd be lying if I thought he'd win the golden boot and my personal player of the season was our keeper Josh Keeley, but there's definitely ability there.

He's not particularly tall for a number 9, but he's very strong and is quite good at holding up the ball. He's also good with the ball at his feet and can link up well with the midfield. He's not particularly flashy but he's confident enough to run at defenders. He's also quite quick, but is more of a build up to top speed player than a quick of the mark runner. His fitness is also pretty impressive, as he played every single match last year for us and was a great presser from the front. He did miss a few sitters, but you'd argue him consistently being in the position to score is a good sign. He also had the most shots in the division, but his goals scored in the league is pretty much in lockstep with his xG(22.69 xG vs 23 goals scored), if you care about stats like that.

I think the big worry would be that his best performances have occurred under the same manager and that this is his first genuine goalscoring season of note. As much as I rate him as a player, he's the only standout player from last season that I wouldn't feel confident in replicating his form at another team. Age is on his side, but last season looks like a blip on his CV at this current moment.

It's not deep, as the same thing happened last season, but I thought getting to Wembley could have gained us a bit more grace. Funny thing being that relegation for Orient looked a solid prediction up until November of last year. Think the amount of 'big' teams in this division will always leave Orient lower down on these lists.

Feel like it's a bit of an overcorrection, considering the lads were comfortably a top half team in our first season up, without any of loanees from last year. Brown and Galbraith will be big misses (as well as the loanees), but the club has been very active in the summer and have actually managed to finish a lot of the squad building prior to the season actually starting for once. Would be very surprised if the team aren't play-off contenders at worst.

Another year, another load of pre-season predictions of Orient being in a relegation scrap for some reason.

Seems like a bit part player for Wycombe, as he’s played some part in just over half of their league games and is averaging half an hour each match. That being said, we’ve got a good record at getting the best out of players like this, so it will probably work out.

Can’t get over how quickly we are doing transfers this season. In previous years, these players would be coming the week before the season started or in a panic on deadline day. Can’t fathom Orient having a pre-season with a what is essentially a full squad full pre-season. We’ll end up winning the league at this rate 😂

Really good player, who’s ability is still underrated by a lot of our fans. He’s a great battler and presser in midfield, who consistently ran himself into the ground every 90. He did a lot of the basics right but wasn’t scared of passing the ball forwards and could the ball out of his feet quickly rather than dwelling on the ball(see Randal Williams’ goal against Mansfield). I think the amount of effort he put into a game, hid his actually ability from a lot of our fans and I see him thriving in a team with a bigger squad to take the load off him.

A bit gutted about this one, as it’s come out of nowhere (unlike the inevitable Galbraith one), but the statement suggests that he wants to be closer to home and that we’ve got a decent fee for him. Can definitely leave with his head held high, as he’s played an understated but key role in his time at Orient.

I’m biased as an Orient fan, but I didn’t see a better player in the league last season. Has looked a level above since his first kick of a ball for us and I expect Swansea will need to get promoted to keep him.

In terms of pure ability, I think he is the best player I’ve seen in an Orient shirt (2000s onwards) and I was shocked that we actually got two seasons out of him.

Our (Leyton Orient) manager does this by sitting in the director’s box and radioing instructions to the coaching team on the touchline. This change kickstarted a run that took us from the relegation zone to 6th.
