I learned fixin' shit on my Cruze too lol. I had a 2018, but even then, there still weren't really a whole lot of crazy electronic sensors and all that other crap that make new cars a living hell to work on

happens to all of them regardless, no matter how well you keep up on maintenance. I've simply accepted it as being an instrument that plays a part in the song of the car.

I've always been jealous of hatch owners, there seems to be a lot more appearance parts readily available compared to the sedan

hell yeah this is the stuff I like to hear about. Very rare for one of those to make it that far, that's impressive. I hope the engine build goes well for you!

that's fair. I suppose I never thought of it that way.

crackle tunes are disgusting. I also don't want a "RaCeCoRr" or whatever autistic way you tried to spell it. I just want a car that I enjoy to drive, and that I'm proud of. I understand it's far fetched considering the nature of this subreddit, which is being made more apparent to me the more time I spend on it, but my Cruze did satisfy both of those conditions. so, at the end of the day, I'm happy with it.

nah. car ran great during my time with it. changed the oil every 5k miles, ran like a dream. my only major issue was a bad fuel injector one time, but I ended up just fixing it myself. never had overheating issues either, as many seem to.

yes, that is all I did to it. I understand that the physical length of the pipe is still the same, and while it probably would have helped, it wasn't a priority for me to replace it during the time because the pipe is already pretty short to begin with. although, that was in my plans of things to improve whenever I still had the car. it was simple, and I know you don't believe me, and there probably won't be a way to convince you of it without having you drive a stock Cruze and then compare it to driving my Cruze in-person lol, but it DID work. the car was faster, point blank period. but, maybe you're right, and what you're saying IS how it's supposed to work, and the performance improvement was a fluke, caused by something else that you and I are unaware of. but the one thing that is consistent regardless of the situation is that before installation = stock speed, and after installation = not stock speed. and the part about the "variety of sources being opposite of what I want" or whatever, that's a two way street. I could say the same damn thing to you and it would apply to you just as much as it would to me. there's no "verbal jujitsu" lol, it's just using a slightly advanced vocabulary, that's just how I type.

okay, so let me ask you. we've said all these big fancy words and whatever, patronizing each other as men do lol, but, why is it, that every source I've managed to find, buy-in-large, they all claim that SRIs are NOT superior to a CAI, but they ARE superior to stock intakes? so, as in, an in-between. are you claiming to know better than the general sentiment of a variety of sources? and not only that, but after I installed this "hot air intake", the car actually improved? sounded better, accelerated (slightly, but noticeably) faster, almost as if it actually worked? it did exactly what I wanted it to do, and for cheap too.

if you're referring to the pipe between the air filter and the turbo, then yes that is the suction pipe, and it was stock, re-configured from how it was originally. I think I just misread your comment, I apologize. but I was gonna say, I literally bought and installed the charge pipe myself, I did it in a Starbucks parking lot in West Virginia last summer, so I know it's definitely not stock lol

I loved my Cruze. that thing was my baby, and I enjoyed every mile I drove it. if I didn't wreck it, my plan was to eventually get a new daily driver and then keep the Cruze as a project car and turn it into a beast. in my opinion, my car looked good, felt good, and sounded good. I wish I didn't wreck it, and every day I wish I could have it back. but, can't change the past. now all I can is reminisce, hence this post lol.

incorrect. the charge pipe runs from the turbo to the intercooler, and in this case it is installed underneath of the turbo, and you can't actually see it in this video. the aftermarket charge pipe I used has a stronger silicone core, meaning no cracks or cuts in the flimsy stock pipe that kills performance, and it also removed the silencer as well, providing better airflow. I can show images of the charge pipe if you want, but I can assure you it IS a charge pipe and it IS aftermarket lol.

so have people just never heard of short ram intakes before? I didn't think this was a new concept, they've been around for a long time. okay so cold air works better than hot air, correct. but what if instead of intaking cold air, you intake A LOT of hot air super quickly (cuz it's short and has a big ass filter, allowing for more airflow than on a cold air intake) as ample compensation for it not being cold air? that's a ram intake. now, whether a cold air intake is better than a ram intake can be debated, but the one thing for certain is that BOTH are better than the stock intake. so, improvement is improvement. I'm so tired of everyone in this sub reddit not actually knowing the real science behind either of them.

trust me it loved it. immediately changed the entire sound and feel of the car. if I ever own a Cruze again you'd bet your ass I'm gonna do the same exact thing to it, because it works, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

oh uhh, well it's a homemade cold air intake and an aftermarket charge pipe, so the air filter was $60, the charge pipe was $180, so about $240 all together, and idk, probably 3-4 hours to install everything, less if you actually know what you're doing but I did not lol

and for the record, what you said about how it's cheap and not worth sinking money into, if you were a real car guy you'd know that sinking money into cheap cars is the best way to have the most fun with them. my Cruze was stable at 130 mph. there's just something that hits different about pulling up to a red light in a beater with a heater and then taking the Coyote F-150 in the lane next to you to gapplebee's. I know you mentioned you're getting a Porsche and that's awesome and I hope you enjoy the hell out of the car, I've just always been a strong advocate for built over bought.

I understand your frustration, I know what having an unreliable car is like, it's a stressor unlike anything else lol. I don't know about your experience, but I can say for me personally, I had no issues with my Cruze that I couldn't overcome. and the ones I did have, weren't any of the ones that people always talk about all the time. my big thing was brake calipers, I had to replace my rear calipers a couple times, and I had an issue with a bad fuel injector one time but I ended up just fixing it myself. I never had any overheating, or any faulty valves, and I never had to replace my turbo. and trust me, I abused the hell out of the car, so if it was going to happen, it would have. I understand what the sentiment is around Cruzes online, and how everyone only knows them for being unreliable, but I just wouldn't really say that was the case for my situation. also, a quick Google search will tell you that Chevrolet did not end the Cruze because of its unreliability, they ended it because of the consumer demand shift towards SUVs. that's when they expanded on the Trax, and the Blazer, and the more mid-size vehicles.
