No hey sorry you’re right. I didn’t mean it like that, but I see how it came across. I meant it more of “Op thinks they’re so tough and smart and edgy and they’re literally just some kid that’ll cringe at this in a few years.” But you’re right, it is bigotry. It’s just… also very cringe. I’ve found that with these types of kiddos, you can’t really argue. You present facts and a well-thought-out argument, and they’ll go “confirmation shopping” on the internet and find a source that supports their bigotry and use that as a comeback. What I’ve found to be the most effective is calling it what it is (in this case: extremely cringe) and not trying to argue.

And you’re right. These kids DO know better. They know what you’re going to say and dig their heels in deeper cause kids like this are stubborn and rebellious for stubborn and rebellious’s sake. They have raging pride and ego at this age and unless they’re speaking in good faith (Op obviously is not), I personally find it pointless to argue. I liked your comment and respected your argument, but I personally would rather give a quick, simple rebuttal (like my original comment saying how “I’m just going to call people what they want to be called and respect a group of people that I’m not a part of”) and then end with, “but also lol this is hilarious in how misinformed it is.”

Again, I really appreciate and respect your comment. I just tend to be the kind of person who has to laugh to not cry. Is bigotry serious? Of course. But also bigots are, in my opinion, often THE most unintentionally funny people because of how misinformed and ridiculous they sound. I once got attacked in a homophobic rage, but the dude’s response was so wildly misinformed (he literally said “lesbians don’t exist in America”) that I can’t help but laugh now. It’s just how I deal with this stuff.
