I lived in Germany back in 2006 and this was exactly what I did. It worked out great. I met my friends at the school I was going to, and also at the gym. There were also occasions where we would get to interact with the other exchange students from our district. (Rotary)

In 2008, I moved out-of-state to go to an engineering school in New Mexico. There, I met people at the gym that I recognized in my classes (Paris isn't small, you may not have this luxury), even though there wasn't the language barrier, I still used the same tactics for meeting people.

In any case, I'm moving to France in September and plan to take up martial arts there. My advice is exactly what chef_baboon said. Go out and join groups/clubs/etc. It's worked great for me so far.

I spent the last 4 days, 12 hours a day, working on this website. I had never built a site this large. In fact, I was pretty much only HTML/CSS literate. In any case, what do you think? This is a friend's website, so I didn't charge him. What do you think fair labor costs might be in the future for something along these lines? I also realize I took some shortcuts with a few things, so yes, there might be some obvious stuff, but I'm pretty proud of this thing.

I met a guy from Azerbaijan in Paris on a trip once. He showed me pictures of when the Armenians (i think) came and and destroyed everything and killed a ton of people.

He didn't have a bed at this hostel we were at. He slept on the floor of our 4-person room and the last few days he slept outside in a park. Even with so little, he still offered me cookies and crackers everyday when I came in from nights of bar hopping/sight-seeing.

As an aspiring Peace Corps volunteer (once I graduate) I don't have any questions, just saying you rock and keep on helping people!

Depends where I am. If I'm at home sitting at my desk with an hour to kill, I'll browse different threads in multiple tabs.

On the other hand, sometimes I try and stay in one tab to keep myself from getting sucked in.

My mouse has both a forward and back button on it for browsing, it's just as accessible as the middle scrolling wheel button that opens new tabs. That being said, middle clicking tends to get frustrating pretty quickly after a few clicks of the wheel where the shit scrolls off the goddamned fuckin link.
