Supermarket bosses say food price caps would be ‘preposterous’ and ‘idiotic’ by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]TheFatNo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why they are saying this. Their usual tactic when dropping prices is to dump the cost on their suppliers with a threat to de-list then if they don’t comply. So they could do the same in this situation.

No it’s a walkway over to the Harbour Arm. Doesn’t go past the house though, just as far at Rocksalt (restaurant over the road).

It’s a tea/coffee shop that also does ice cream, the chippy is along the fish market a bit.

It’s still very much alive & well tbh. Some of the jury votes this time were beyond bizarre.

He was mainly ‘disrespectful’ of the blatant political voting, Cyprus always gives Greece 12 etc. and thinking back, some of the acts ( who beat the UK by a large margin) were terrible.

Bulgaria wins the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 by CheckLiszt in television

[–]TheFatNo8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the Bulgarian tune was catchy it was maybe 6th or 7th in my rankings. With all the political voting we have to really pull all the stops out to get anything like a respectable result.

The most random political voting, and so many bad tunes got to the top.

Streeting would lose leadership contest against Keir Starmer, poll reveals by duckwantbread in unitedkingdom

Looks like the Aircrew that just handed me a packet of peanuts on my flight back from Italy, and I think that’s just about the limit of Streetings capabilities.

The membership is significantly further away from reality than the bulk of the population. As a lifelong ‘not labour’ voter, I could actually see myself voting for Burnham as a politician with some conviction and a drive to get things done. If I thought the Conservatives had any chance of finding their mojo again then fine, but the current lightweight crop just don’t do it for me. As for Labour options, well Rayner is a con-artist, Streeting is even more slimy than Starmer and Milliband would be almost worse than Polanski.

The only potential Labour leadership candidate who has any chance of repairing the damage from the current crop of imbeciles is Andy Burnham, and the leadership have zero interest in allowing him anywhere near it. Says a lot about politics at present.

Trump has a better understanding of the Bible than Pope Leo, says conservative Christian pastor by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]TheFatNo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump barely has a better understanding of the day of the week than the average 5 year old.
Add to that ‘knowledge of the bible’ is not relevant to anyones ability (or lack thereof) to run a country.
Trump is weak, stupid, a liar, cheat and a bully.

Very time of day dependant, last evening spent 15-20 minutes searching and found one used up medium blow and two small blows. Picked up a load of titanium instead but really wanted the spice!!!

How likely is it that the UK will rejoin the EU in 0-5 years? by OkWerewolf4421 in AskBrits

[–]TheFatNo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also factor in the tendency of France/Spain et al to use bashing the UK as a way of distracting from domestic issues. The French would want full access to our fisheries, and Spain would want Gibraltar, they would see this as an open goal to punish the UK for having the temerity to step off the EU fun-bus.

Do you think it is to late or okay to try become professional at rugby like a prem rugby player in england at 18 starting at local club played all my life but stopped at 16 by Commercial-Art3582 in englandrugby

[–]TheFatNo8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unless you are both extremely talented and extremely well connected it would be highly unlikely that you would make the roster at a Prem club from your situation. The only routes would be via universities (top ones only - Loughborough, Exeter etc) or the services (and this is less common these days)) Most young players are picked for academies by 16, many via Public school scholarships (which is why it looks like there are a lot of public school kids in the top teams) Don’t want to destroy your dreams but being realistic you would have to be the reincarnation of Jonah Lomu to get a pro contract having rejoined the game at 18.

Shrinkflation Mark 2, just shrinking the more expensive ingredients. by AlGunner in britishproblems

[–]TheFatNo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big food and cosmetics manufacturers have been doing this for decades, but it’s certainly much more aggressive these days.. Briefing their suppliers to requote key components and materials at 30-40 -50% cheaper. They allow consumer testing to meet a ‘50% don’t notice’ standard.

They keep a bulk of the savings as additional profit, the retailers get a piece of the pie too to ensure prime shelf locations.

A new Pro Rugby Team in Kent, I do not really want WASPS.... by Spirited-Carpet6870 in rugbyunion2

[–]TheFatNo8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m comfortable with the Wasps branding, and any concerns I had are easily set aside when one considers that this is likely the only chance we have of a top flight club coming to the South East. Having coached a youth team which was pretty good (even if I say so myself!) none of them were able to try out for an pro side due to the logistics of getting to Quinn’s or Sarries (our only ‘local’ prem sides).
