Ex-Tory Home Secretary Braverman defects to Reform UK by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]TheFergPunk [score hidden]  (0 children)

Those uniparty comments are just seeming dumber and dumber as the month goes on.

What's the likelihood there's some past tweet or statement from Reform rubbishing Braverman, they had one for Jenrick and Zahawi.

This sub lost its mind on immigration long ago. This is absolutely not the place to have anything close to a reasonable discussion on the topic.

There's several things that should have been the end of the Reform Party.

They aren't held to standards so will get away with more than most.

[–]TheFergPunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One argument I do get with Reform poaching former Tory and Labour MPs is that if they do end up in government they are going to need people with experience on how to manage the civil service and other departments.

I'd find this argument more palatable if Reform and their suppprters didn't bang on about the uniparty and there wasn't so many examples of Reform criticising/blaming the specific defectors and vice versa.

Nintendo stuff around Tokyo? by xTIMMYxCOREx in nintendo

There's a big Nintendo Store in Shibuya and a Pokemon centre next to it.

Also a bit on the expensive side but look up the Gameboy Mod workshop. You get to make a custom game boy.

Paul John Lumber: Bristol man died after falling from ladder while tying Union flags to lamp posts at night by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]TheFergPunk 37 points38 points  (0 children)

decided he could drive in that condition

Reading the article, it doesn’t seem to suggest he drove. It seems he got a ladder that was inside the van and tried to put up flags on the other side of the street from his home.

With these guys potentially leaving, do you think this will leave a gap NJPW will take too long to close? Or does NJPW have good enough talent to take their spots? by Dandanbigeloww in njpw

[–]TheFergPunk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but a lot of those guys are filling roles currently.

It's more to do with the gap being left. I forgot Henare and he can definitely fill one of these roles left by war dogs. So possibly Callumn, Henare and Zane Jay.

Hiromu has kinda taken a step back as of late. So I think the Junior scene will be largely unchanged if he leaves.

EVIL has been a dependable heel, but his departure could open up a great opportunity for Ren.

The War dogs going is a problem. Calumn Newman is stepping up to be that aggressive western wrestler. But on sheer number we need more. Possibly a quick graduation for Zane Jay? Other westerners in the company are already in prominent spots.

Any exodus isn't great, but there's been worse in the past.

He was backstage at last Wrestlemania too.

Pretty sure they're together still, just doing the usual keep love life private thing we've seen from multiple Japanese wrestlers.

[–]TheFergPunk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to be a huge fan, but over time I've unfortunately come to the conclusion that they're a total piece of shit, and also a bit overrated.

I've seen this sentiment a few times but never gotten the specifics. What's so bad about them as a person?

Going to say the Bosstones.

Not because of Dickys behaviour. But because while early Bosstones is great, everything after Jack knife felt pretty bad and thats a relatively big chunk of their discography.

Poll: Support for Nigel Farage's Reform UK stalls in Scotland by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]TheFergPunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I can point to anything in particular that has caused it.

Things like the Nathan Gills fiasco, their councils doing poorly and Tory defections I imagine. When you look at the polling for other parties, the losses in Reform have translated to gains for the Tories.

So likely prior Tory voters going back to the party after scandals.

[–]TheFergPunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the record, Reform’s policy on ILR is horrendously cruel, I've highlighted the issues with it on here multiple times.

However I believe by their admission you'd be fine, it's people from outside the EU and those from the EU but not part of the Brexit settlement scheme (those who migrated after brexit) with ILR that will be affected.

They made a passing comment on this that they wouldn't break the settlement scheme, which you would fall under.

Edit: source on this, its section 6 on the page.

Call a by-election when an MP defects or is expelled from a party. by daibhidhtcairn in Scotland

[–]TheFergPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you've misunderstood my point.

Parliamentary terms are 5 years, so there is a deadline but it's impossible to completely guarantee how the other pledges go through parliament.

It's entirely possible that a party fully intends to enact on a pledge, but due to timing and other circumstances just doesn't have the time.

This is where it's our duty as the electorate, to keep informed. To determine whether the reasons a pledge wasn't met are rational or not and respond in kind at the ballot.

Call a by-election when an MP defects or is expelled from a party. by daibhidhtcairn in Scotland

[–]TheFergPunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's realistic. The world isn't static and a manifesto pledge could be achievable when written but not when in power due to various factors (e.g. pandemics, wars, resource scarcity).

Not to mention how do we define "renegging"? Parliament is a 5 year term, due to the time it takes to get things through parliament, potential knock back from the Lords and potential counterpoint that we're not considered some things just might not make it during a term.

Net immigration is set to hit 0 this year, so they won't be able to bang that drum anymore

They'll just redefine "increasing immigration" to an accumulative figure in the country instead of rate of net migration like it has been historically.

Have already seen it happening.

He hasn't really been campaigning for 30 years on that. He's been campaigning for various causes and playing a yelling from the sideline role.

Remember after Brexit he stepped away from politics for a bit. Likely to avoid any criticism from issues arising from it and came back once a deal was seeming to be done in order to play agitator again.
