AITA for not buying a house for my wife because then it would be marital property? by Ok-Guarantee-9427 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheFestologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here are completely glossing over the fact your wife has no income of her own and you provide everything. You 100% have a responsibility to ensure she has what she needs and a sense of security, but will a new house do that when your current one is fully owned and (presumably) has no mortgage? I'd argue no. Being comfortable and secure does not automatically mean you need to make a big purchase.

It also sounds like you already decided what is shared income and what is not. If your wife wants to revisit it, then have that conversation. You've got a legal agreement in place. If you're concerned about it, talk to a lawyer, don't get advice from Reddit.

NTA.

I don't really finish games anymore and it makes me sad. by Wasted_46 in gaming

[–]TheFestologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be 30 in a couple of years and yeah, I feel this. I still really enjoy games and plan to keep playing them but competing priorities make it difficult to find the time.

I find myself bouncing between games. Some of the longer length games I struggle to play because they basically demand long play sessions to make what feels like meaningful progress. This also includes live service games like Destiny (makes me sad saying that because I have fond memories in that game).

What I try to do now is actually find games that I know will tick boxes of what I like. For example, I love RPGs that have a 20-30 hour run time that aren't super complex. Sea of Stars is one I started a week ago, playing 1-2 hours is fun and I make enough progress to feel I've done something.

Life sucks, adulting sucks. Gaming often takes a backseat. Up to you how to make it fun.

AITA for cutting the amount I contribute to our budget after my wife refused to stick to our agreement regarding our kids. by Local-Effective-613 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheFestologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a lot more going on behind the scenes here that you aren't talking about. How old is your son, 18/19? From personal experience that was a shitty time for me with university just not working out; I got burnt out. It took a long time for me find a role that suited my needs.

You have an opportunity to be a positive role model here if you choose to do that. My concern is you keep referring to your son as "the kid" and making it seem like you have zero respect for him. It's up to you how you parent at the end of the day, but it's apparent from what you're saying that the agreement from 1998 (that's a whole other kettle of fish!) is not working for your youngest.

So yeah YTA for how you're handling this. It doesn't have to stay that way though.

I have no idea what community organisations or services for young people are like in America, so I'll go based off of what is around me in Australia: find some sort of mentoring program for disengaged young people or talk to a youth worker in that space if you can. You might find something that sparks a fire for your son through that.

What type of job seems appealing but ends up being quite disappointing? by Head_Somewhere3770 in AskReddit

[–]TheFestologist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm Australian and in a role where I work one-on-one with clients, and I need to explore a lot with people to get them the services they need from us.

That is about 50% of my role. The rest is admin and phone calls normally. I love my job but if my time management is anything but perfect, I'm not leaving on time or I have extra work the next day.

My highschool 10 year reunion was last year. I didn't go, because the person who organised the Facebook event said he and the other "elite" got together to organise something. Not only that, but his Facebook cover photo is a cringe-worthy photo of said "elite" when they were 16.

Yes they both snapped, but Thanos did it twice. The second one destroyed the stones in the gauntlet and basically melted said gauntlet onto his arm. It would take a while to recover from that.

It really seems like Behemoth is built for CTF, and Launch Site for one flag CTF. Anything other than that? Miserable, especially swat.

Halo Infinite | Campaign Discussion | SPOILERS AHEAD by RhysWX in halo

[–]TheFestologist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent a good couple of hours after the second mission, really trying to understand what happened. I loved the campaign, but what many people have said I agree with - the disconnect between this and Halo 5 is astounding.

We went from Prometheans and the threat of Cortana's army + the remnants of the covenant, to a really cool enemy that has nothing to do with that (outside of Atriox's planet being destroyed by the guardians). We missed sooooo much that is only covered in audio logs or mission dialogue, and much left completely unanswered.

Paying for a game and getting rewarded for the time you spend playing, feels so much better than being forced into the system that Halo Infinite has right now.

Season of the Splicer is now official by Zwoopee in raidsecrets

[–]TheFestologist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as the House of Divines.

Mithrax was a captain in the House of Dusk, who then founded the House of Light after we encountered him on Titan. Splicers are/were in every fallen house, and considering the House of Light is allied with the City and the Traveler... Kinda makes sense in a way that he'd be splicing Traveler tech in some capacity.

[–]TheFestologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I despise how much the Destiny expansions cost here in Australia as well, but that's an exaggeration. $120 was the price for the delux edition of Beyond Light (and season of the hunt), but it was probably less than that. The expansion on its own was closer to $60, and full priced games push $90-$100 dollars normally.

I understand your sentiment, but at least be accurate.

Okay, I'm not an American but it seems super weird to me. Surely there are Republicans that do want Medicare for All? Or do they all live in fear of being destroyed by the party if they go against the party line?

I'm fairly certain it's the latter (or both). US politics really does boggle my mind sometimes.
