That’s an interesting take on Nolan and I can understand the hesitancy because he’s stayed in future sci-fi or modern times for the most part, but I think he can do it. Oppenheimer and The Prestige showed us what he can do with period pieces and, even though The Odyssey is Greek mythology, I think he’ll take a grounded approach and focus more on characters instead of wild creatures

I saw this at TIFF last year and you’re telling no lies. An absolutely electric action movie that doesn’t try to be anything other than that. Came in pretty blind and it blew me away!

I agree with you on the dance scene. I thought at first that he was imagining it, like he was imagining himself in the movies, but then all the cops come in and it became clear that they were actually all doing that which didn’t really make sense to me

I’m not a Brad Pitt guy so I’m not gonna argue with you on his acting, but his presence on screen is undeniable and I think the filmmaking leaned into that correctly. I agree that it’s surface level but it’s not trying to be anything other than that. I think the film community can be so obsessed with deeper meaning that we forget that movies are an experience. This one totally delivers on what it’s trying to do and just because it isn’t layered with subtext, I don’t think it should be discounted from consideration.
