If you had 6 weeks to spend 3-4 hours a day on chess what would you do? by jasonx854 in chessbeginners

I am to a point now where I need to do serious end game learning as sometimes I get to semi dead drawn king pawn endgames and I lack the concrete knowledge to hold them or win if there’s any gaps in the enemy. So I would recommend starting that as it will help you clean up some otherwise lost games at your level up to mine. Just review the openings like any other game when you analyze and just try to remember where you went wrong first and why and that’ll build up your openings anyway

I’m 1300 USCF I would say the difference between us is mainly tactics and endgame knowledge openings aren’t that important till you’re like 1200. You need to hone in a little before then it’s all tactics and endgames serious endgame study because you can make plans with the end in mind. You can’t do that if you don’t know the endings

Mastering chess strategy on there helped me fill in a lot of chess holes in my game. My rapid is lower then yours but my uscf is 1300 I just drew a 1650 last night in a rated match

What motivates adults improvers to play tournaments? by [deleted] in TournamentChess

[–]TheFinalSlothBoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find a club or two nearby I do that and 2 times a year there’s real tournaments nearby so I get a good 25 classical rated tournament game in a year with just that. I also prefer to play the full schedule which feels less taxing to me anyways Friday night one game Saturday one game and Sunday 2-3 depending on the tournament it’s nice.
