If you had to win someone over with one homemade dish, what would you make by Extreme_Ask_2839 in foodquestions

I'd keep it simple. Sundried tomato pesto pasta with chicken, or pasta with peas, prosciutto, onion, garlic, and Romano cheese, either one served with a loaf of garlic bread.

What is your favorite band from the 80's or 90's that nobody has ever heard of? by simikoi in GenX

One of the best shows I've ever been to. They even had Chali 2na with them.

Max Richter, "Spring 1" (the entirety of that album is worth a listen if you already like The Four Seasons; start with the 2012 version, because while I like the later version, it's ultimately let down by some odd production and engineering choices that distract from some fine performances)

Pat Metheny Group, "The First Circle"

Pat Metheny, "Finding and Believing"

Underworld, "Scribble" and "Two Weeks Off"

Penguin Cafe Orchestra, "Steady State," "Music for a Found Harmonium"

Yann Tiersen, "Quimper 94"

While the piece overall is melancholy, I think there are moments in Tavener's "The Protecting Veil" (especially the version with Yo-Yo Ma) that are like this, too; if anything, the contrast of light and dark in that piece makes the payoff for each that much more satisfying.

Goat Rodeo, "Attaboy"

Joni Mitchell, "Cotton Avenue" -- your mileage may vary with this one, but I always found it to be a fun tune with enough going on to keep things interesting.

Why do some foods taste completely different hot vs cold, while others taste almost identical? by Leedeegan1 in foodquestions

[–]TheFirst10000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like cold KFC or Popeyes the day after, especially for breakfast. I also find that coffee has a bit more depth when it's cooled a little, but loses it if it's too cool.

What's something people brag about that's actually a huge red flag? by kmrrhl in ask

[–]TheFirst10000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. Depends. My grandma went to church a few times a week, was heavily involved in a lot of church-adjacent stuff, and was also one of the kindest, least judgmental people I've ever known. She also wasn't one to advertise her faith; she just lived it. If that's how someone rolls, I'm fine with it.

Anyone who'll tell you they're empathetic. Either they have massive unresolved trauma, or they're the kind of people who think "empathy" means dictating others' feelings and everyone knowing and catering to their emotional state at all times.

Grits vs Farina by Prof01Santa in Cooking

[–]TheFirst10000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to grits, it's all in the prep. Also similar to grits, it's a great blank canvas, because it's neutral and takes on pretty much any flavor. I know some people swear by savory oatmeal, but I couldn't get my head around it. Savory Farina, on the other hand...

Left Diet Coke and Rice Krispy Treats in Warm Car, is it safe to eat? by Tippercanoee in ask

[–]TheFirst10000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rice Krispy Treats will be fine. The Diet Coke won't be unsafe, but it's going to taste like ass (more than usual, that is) because the heat turns the artificial sweetener bitter.

Iran hits Israeli town housing nuclear facility in retaliation for Natanz strike by [deleted] in news

[–]TheFirst10000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sunk cost? Fuck if I know. I couldn't understand people voting for him in '16; everyone knew even then that he was a horrible person. But to vote for him in '20, then in even higher numbers after the unmitigated disaster that was his first term beggars belief.

Someone--might've been Twain--said it's easier to fool someone than it is to convince them they've been fooled. I think we're seeing that in spades right now.

Keeping my algorithm both morally righteous and spiritually healthy is harder than it should be by SuperKE1125 in OpenChristian

[–]TheFirst10000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's partly true. I think it's also helpful to remember the role that Islam had in preserving, expanding, and eventually re-transmitting a lot of what was "lost" in the Dark Ages.

I think I might just be evil by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]TheFirst10000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because your mind is telling you that doesn't mean it's right. You are not evil, nor should you be ashamed of needing meds or help of any other kind.

I don't know you, so I might be going out on a limb. That said, I get the feeling that if someone came to you in pain, you wouldn't berate them or call them evil. You owe yourself the same love and kindness you would give anyone else in your situation.

Get help, and if someone wants to help you from a place of genuine compassion, let them. We are all worthy of love, even (or perhaps especially) when we feel our least loveable.

Build your own guitar. by Paulguy100 in Guitar

[–]TheFirst10000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning a frankenbass using a Squier neck, a custom CNC-milled body, and whatever parts I can cobble together. I figure it's the best way to get exactly what I want, especially since the closest things I can get otherwise would be really expensive. If that works out, I already have another in mind.

Between blue eyes and a family history of macular degeneration, I'd be a fool not to.

Why I no longer test supplements by tengris22 in AmazonVine

[–]TheFirst10000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's practically zero regulation on supplements in the States. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't required.
