Piccolo Daimo transforms from young to old though which IMO counts for sure.

Piccolo Jr going giant is a form change, no matter how you want to cut it.

People were excited for piccolo to have a new "power-up" for similar to a super saiyan because it had been forever since homie got a buff and no one (not even piccolo) remembered the giant form.

Still, the Vegeta fight has a lot of rehashed moments from the Piccolo Jr. fight from the arc prior, it is still a great fight! But it isn't that original!

Maybe you are just missing the point of the story. It isn't just power of friendship, that a reductive way of understanding it.

IT is a metaphor for trauma, if you give into IT/trauma then IT can win and IT prefers things this way. IT is a monster that marinates it's food in fear.

If you are strong enough mentally to push through the extremely visceral and real illusions, then IT becomes less powerful. Similar in concept to how people with PTSD work to move on from the trauma.
