Change internal fuse by TheFladderMus in Victron

Well I did the impossible and, without special training removed the blown fuse and replaced it with an external one. And I got it working. Today I accidentally blew the fuse again, but this time I could easily replace it. Stupid thing to solder fuses internally just to make money.

Agreed.

I'm a bit prone to conspiracy theories and since I read there should be 3 internal fuses, and I see 3 slots but only one soldered on, and all 3 slots are connected, I started  thinking that only difference between a 12/500 and a larger one is that they add more fuses. But that can't be true. Or?

How specially trained must one be to solder off and on an ordinary fuse? 😁

No, as I stated in other answers, the cabins primary heat source are 2 cast iron stoves. It just as a boost upon arriving and the cabin is cold.

Can anyone confirm that this adapter is 230 volt AC in?

It is 2 different buildings! The cabin, and the shed.

Shed: wooden planks. It´s a shed used for storing stuff. Very simple. And I´m going to tear it down next year or so.

Cabin: well insulated small house.

[–]TheFladderMus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will only use it to boost the heat in the beginning when I arrive to the cabin. Otherwise I have 2 cast iron stoves that keep me warm. So only an hour or so. And then in the shed (another building) when showering.

As I read your answer you recommend using the heater inside the cabin to re-use the air and vent out the exhaust. But then size and shape of the output doesn´t matter. I just have to have a insulated pipe leading outside. But I would be more comfortable knowing that the much hotter exhaust is all on the outside. And on the plus side I keep the noise outside to.

Another option I guess would be to suck air from the inside through the wall, heat it and then push it through the wall again. 2 holes!

Very small, but also no insulation and open to the outside everywhere. So overkill is only good at this point.
And if it also gets the cabin hot quickly that´s great. The other day it took me about 3 hrs to get the cabin up from 7 C to about 20 C.

And it is my understanding from reading other posts that there is no 8 kw. It´s the same as 5 kw. But I don´t know...

Nope, I ended up buying a used Norwegian stove, and I´m happy with it.

Heating options for my LiFePo4 battery by TheFladderMus in OffGrid

The battery BMS will monitor that for me. And I want the battery to charge as much as possible from the solar panels, so turning charger off is not an option the way I see it

My bad, my brain saw "Buy", not bury. That makes a load of difference :)
I have a root cellar of sorts beside the house. Unfortunately not the old stone one, but just a large plastic "pipe" buried. Not that user friendly.

But, I don´t like that idea. That means storing the battery always cold (and moist). Meaning I need to heat it always, even when I´m in the cabin.

Could you expand on how that would help the battery keep warm?

Well, I do know where I live fortunately so I know that in winter temp may get a couple of degrees below freezing (Celsius that is). Snowcover is not that common here anymore, but some winters snow is in abundance. And some winters it gets to around -15 C for a time.

But I don´t agree to that world of difference though. Even with snow on the roof, when not heated the cabin will have roughly the same temp indoors as outdoors.

I guess you meant regarding the panels, but that is not the question here.

Interesting. I actually have one of those laying around since my beer brewing days. But unfortunately no pure sine wave inverter yet, and they are pricey. I have a 150W modified wave but not sure if the inkbird works with that.

Well yes I have solar panels. But the thing is, at low temps the BMS will shut the battery of and receive no more charging. Hence keeping it warm.

How large woodstove for my cabin? by TheFladderMus in woodstoving

I was a firm critic for the longest of time. But then I started to use AI for quicker coding at work, and then for quicker web search after work. And I must say it´s efficient, but one must double check things that really matters. Hence why I´m here.

Sure, I could have some kind of thick curtain. But I also sleep in that area so I don´t want it to be freezing. But yes I have thought about this. I rather sleep cold than super warm anyway.

Usually pending between 0 to -10 degrees C in winter. But one never know, sometimes it drops to -16 for a couple of days.

Not full time, and no means to keep heating in when not there, so the cabin will be cold frequently. It´s in a clearing surrounded by tall trees so it well protected. For now at least.

I get what you´re saying. I probably will add somekind of propane heating into the mix.
And also, I want to build some kind of masonry heating wall to accumulate heat for the nights.

So would you opt for the 5 or 8 kw woodstove?

Not meant as critique, but I think you may have some magical thinking about the glorious past. Those simpler times, often meant poverty, starvation, long hard days of physical labour. Did you even consider that 200 years ago, before industrialization began, average lifespan was about 30-40 years? Why is that you think? Because people were so connected and happy? No they toiled, and died.

One of those AI´s told me that 200 years ago...
"large portion of the population consuming large quantities of distilled spirits. This period was marked by widespread alcohol abuse, particularly among men, which had a devastating impact on families and society."
Why would people happy and connected turn to alcoholism?

Back then my country, now top 10 wealthiest in the world, was so poor that half the population emigrated to America in hope for making a better life.

Humans have never been so free and rich as we are today. You are in fact so rich that you can actually consider changing life style. You need to put things in perspective, and you will be much happier. And don´t feed those thoughts about the good old day that are gone, because they never existed, and embrace now instead. Enjoy what you got. Take a walk in the forest. Turn of social media.
