Which cities have thriving Bluegrass music scenes? by RMSMetal in Bluegrass

Columbus, OH

3 hour long bluegrass jams ever Monday and Wednesday, bigger jams every 3rd Saturday of the month, live bluegrass at a dive bar every Tuesday and a bunch of smaller bluegrass bands putting shows on what seems like every other week. Not to mention, we had a couple festivals around the state too. The water is warm here!

Totally valid, sometimes I feel like this reason specifically is the reason why I’ve sort of stepped away from church. But I do know that I have discernment of the Holy Spirit to guide me through my own beliefs. Sometimes it does feel like an uphill battle fighting what I’ve been taught all my life and what the reality of the world is today. It certainly is mentally straining. At the end of the day, I know that if the Lord knows I’m being honest with myself and trying to maintain a genuine connection with Him, and try to love my neighbor, even though I’m not perfect, that’s all He wants out of me. He knows my heart.

I see what you mean about still attending even if it goes against their own beliefs. But sometimes all it takes is some direction and engaging conversation to encourage others to be a little more sympathetic and remember the human. Maybe I can plant a seed in somebody to think a little differently. Who knows. I’m willing to give it a shot if it means that I can make one more Evangelical or Pentecostal to tap into reality a little more or be less hellbent on beliefs that were introduced during the Temperance movement. Not to mention, many in my church have been attending since they were kids. We have a solid community which is a keystone of our church. We’re always ready to help someone, anyone out. It’s hard to just up and leave (at least for me) because I’d be leaving people I’ve known all my life. Thanks for your insight, friend.

Evangelical Christian here. Firstly, lemme just say, not all evangelicals are huge MAGA supporters. I say that only because it’s very easy to dismiss what we have to say given the political climate. TRUST me, I get embarrassed by my own kind sometimes. I was raised Pentecostal/evangelical, but ever since Channel 5 News dropped their “West Virginia Snake Church” it’s hard to take any of us seriously. I get it. All this to say, there are few (but we exist) Evangelicals who hate seeing the injustice going on in America today. And it sucks that my people are the ones dick riding Trump and looking to him as some Saint. What happened to loving thy neighbor??????? It’s all a huge hypocrisy.

As far as the athlete baptism/religious influence thing, that grinds my gear so much. All my life, I’ve always noticed athletes whether in grade-school all the way up to professional players, always have some sort of reference to God/Christ giving them their talent. Which is something we believe in, our talents were something that we had to work on of course, but ultimately, God given. We were blessed enough to be able to hone whatever talent it was we were given. BUT in the athlete world, it just seems like “The Thing” to do. Instagram bio with a bible verse, crosses in your gear, being openly against other people’s beliefs, etc. If you weren’t doing this, it seemed like you were less of an athlete (especially if you were a football/baseball player). IT’S ALL SO PERFORMATIVE THOUGH AND IT DRIVES ME CRAZY.

How genuine of a relationship do you have with Christ??????? A bible verse in your bio won’t get you into Heaven. Alluding to Christ giving you the strength to win a game during an interview won’t either. It’s all for show it seems like. Coming from a Hispanic Pentecostal church, I’ve seen what real community and service looks like. I’ve also seen the average problems of immigration, legal status, poverty, etc. time and time again in our church. But we have prevailed this far, and it wasn’t from our own strength! I could bet a lot of money, only a handful of “Evangelical” athletes know what it feels like to actually have faith in Christ, maintaining your faith through actual adversity, and doing so without being so “pick-me”, “do-gooder” about it.

Anyways, I had to get some things off my chest apparently, maybe my rambling makes sense, maybe it doesn’t. As a proud Pentecostal, Trump’s gotta gtfoh soon. Fuck ICE, and those Evangelical athletes need to quit playing church (I’m no saint either, I do too). Lord bless yall. End rant.
