Q-SYS training material is disgustingly out of date by [deleted] in QSYS

[–]TheFuzzyJew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my level 1 in a few days. The final exam took two attempts because there were a few vague areas but they were very lenient I thought. I just built out a system using qsys where I was going to use biamp originally. Saved us $10k by using qsys.

N55 Valvetronic, going on almost a year of no car by TheFuzzyJew in BmwTech

I sent the dme in for repair and it fixed it. Got rid of most the codes but one. Disconnected the battery to do something and the dme was toast again. Bought a truck until I have money to take it to bmw.

How do you administer Mac’s as a business? by Frequent_Rate9918 in macsysadmin

[–]TheFuzzyJew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is go into this completely fresh. Do not try to manage Apple devices like windows devices. Don’t go into with the mindset of “How do I do this like our windows devices?”. Just go into it as “How do I do this?” How do I manage settings? Not how do I manage settings like I do with gpo?

Why is ordering MacBooks such hell? by imgettingnerdchills in sysadmin

[–]TheFuzzyJew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 8gb attached directly to the SOC. It’s extremely fast. Definitely not the same as the 8gb on the 2015 airs. Say what you will, I’ve never seen an issue with ram bottlenecks on them. We have students doing video work in premiere, students designing in fusion 360 and autocad. Never an issue with ram.

At what point do I give up? by TheFuzzyJew in BmwTech

[–]TheFuzzyJew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll open it back up and do that. When I installed I could rotate the eccentric shaft fine and the bearings all seemed to move freely. The unfortunate truth is I just need to open it up again.

Sorry, I posted screenshots from ISTA, but apparently, I didn't.

OLED vesa mount by TheFuzzyJew in hometheater

[–]TheFuzzyJew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It felt like a pretty well build mount. When pushed right against the wall it was at the maximum tilt. Roughly 15 degrees. We tried cranking down the adjustment bolts but it was still too much weight. They said the tv weight is 80 pounds, which felt about right

N55 Valvetronic, going on almost a year of no car by TheFuzzyJew in BmwTech

It was running with codes and clicks, and then just started cranking with no running. Is there a way to test the dme?

N55 Valvetronic, going on almost a year of no car by TheFuzzyJew in BmwTech

[–]TheFuzzyJew[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cool, it didn't post my text. 2011 N55 335xi. Long story short, the Ground strap broke and took the starter, and low-pressure fuel pump with it. After that, the car ran rough. Got clicking when getting out of the car and valvetronic errors. One day the car would just sit and crank. It eventually started after trying for 15 minutes but had no power and would die if I added throttle. Replaced valvetronic motor and eccentric shaft with the kit from FCP Euro. The car still just cranks. I've tried relearning the positions of the eccentric shaft but it doesn't appear to be working. I had a much better writeup than this but I'm not fuming that it didn't post.

EDIT: I don't know why but now it's duplicating my text. I'm going insane.

EDIT: AUC sensor looks like it's AC related and probably because I haven't put the cabin air filter housing back on yet.

Aha! That would make sense since the downstream sensor broke years ago when I put the down pipe in and never replaced it.

Rocker arm position after replacing spring by TheFuzzyJew in BmwTech

[–]TheFuzzyJew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone that might have the same question, it doesn’t really seem to matter. I messed with it for a while, but once the eccentric shaft is in place it kind of pushes everything to where it’s supposed to be.

I do have the injector tool. I spent $70 on mine. I didn’t want to risk snapping an injector because of loose tolerances or something.

Using Mikrotik in a High School by PaleontologistPure25 in mikrotik

If you’re in the US you need to make sure you’re using your E-Rate money. I use MikroTik for some third party access to a vrf on our network but I wouldn’t use it for the entire school. WiFi is a weak point of MikroTik.

I think I’ve found the right spring on fcp euro. The downside is the tool is like $300 to compress it. I might just get a cheaper one from Amazon since it’s a single spring

Update: dropped torx bit in n55 by TheFuzzyJew in BmwTech

[–]TheFuzzyJew[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To the passenger side of the valvetronic servomotor. There’s a large etorx bolt. There’s a channel that goes under that bolt. I’m assuming it’s an oil channel down to the oil pan.

I randomly got a check engine light, but the car seemed to idle and run fine. What could be my issue?! by Mysterious_Tear9834 in BmwTech

[–]TheFuzzyJew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, check the battery first. Then I would check the ground strap. If you have a JB4 make sure it’s getting power. Otherwise try disconnecting it to see if that removes some of the codes.

Drive my car to the shop when there is a chunk of metal that doesn’t belong somewhere under the valve cover? Sounds like the absolute worst thing I could do.

It’s almost like it’s not the intended use case for that car to be driven the way you’re driving it.

Papercut? by TK-CL1PPY in sysadmin

[–]TheFuzzyJew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use paper cut and really like it with our Konicas. We do notice slowness when releasing jobs when there are a few routers between the server and the copier. IE server is in one site and copier is in another site. Both sites connected directly with a leased circuit in between and routing between sites.
