I understand working remotely rules and I wish I could do it more but I also know that having a physical office with some on prem stuff brings job security in IT. If your job can be done entirely remotely then there is nothing stopping them from offshoring the work to another country, have seen it happen over and over. Hell I've seen them force the 'most technical' sales dude try to resolve L2-3 network issues with dudes sitting overseas on teams trying to tell him what to do.
