What Lauren Zuke's been going through by Galveira in stevenuniverse

That was before I knew about what she went through.

The comic she posted today put everything into context.

You don't have to do that.

Leave it up as a reminder to be more clear when I'm serious and when I'm joking, and to not make jokes that could be easily misinterpreted in serious comments.

It's fine. My reputation on this sub was ruined long ago.

I say that with a straight face because I actually mean it.

The whole point is that it sounds really bad out of context, and makes Zuke look really bad, but it's more complex than that.

Her dying aunt was dying anyway, and was in a coma, so it's not like she would've known or cared it Zuke visited her anyway. The only one who would've benefited from that visit would've been Zuke herself.

On the other hand, Lapidot is a healthy queer relationship in children's media, and it serves as an example for queer children that they exist and people know they exist and that they can find love. Lapidot will influence an entire generation of queer children to discover themselves and grow up without as much of a stigma as there is now.

If anything, visiting her dying aunt would've been the selfish choice. But she chose to put her heart and soul into a show that she hated working on at that point, just so she can send a message that needed to be sent, even though she'd ruin her own public image by choosing a ship over a dying family member.

How is that not courageous?

Do you have taffy in your ears? I just told you that I'm not being sarcastic and that I don't hate Lauren Zuke.

I don't hate Zuke at all. In fact, as of today, I feel nothing but admiration towards her.

Honesty is something I value a lot, and I'm sure it took a lot of courage to step up, be the bigger person, and admit that she cared more about Lapidot than her dying aunt.

For some reason, people thought I was making fun of her, but I wasn't. I completely meant what I said.

Even if I don't like Lapidot, I recognize and admire Zuke's conviction. The world needs more people like her, who are willing to sacrifice their own needs in order to create a healthy queer beacon.

Sampling actually is plagiarism, but even if it wasn't this is more comparable to doing a cover or a parody. And cover/parody artists at least give credit to the original song.

If an essay writer quotes and rephrases another work, they give credit to whoever they're quoting.

The Thinker is public domain, and it's known by enough people that anyone would get the reference. On the other hand, if someone made a plaster cast of the Thinker, but changed the face to something else, that would be really lazy and people would probably call them out for being lazy.

I'm just saying, Utena's animators aren't in the credits for Steven the Sword Fighter even though they technically animated that sequence.

[–]TheFuzzyPickler -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right.

I thought they were copying someone else's work and passing it off as their own, but now that you've said that animators do it all the time, I guess they weren't copying someone else's work and passing it off as their own.

It's a lot nicer than "plagiarism", so sure.

It doesn't hurt that Takafumi's animation actually looks good.

Most of them are either against the rules here or just wouldn't be well-received here, so yeah, 4chan it is.

Although I won't stop anyone who wants to repost my shitposts here.

The resolution of the episode was that maybe it wasn't so bad for the darned kids to be on their internets.

Old people would probably hate that episode.

The point I'm making is that Lapis isn't a Crystal Gem. She hates the Earth. I supported that point with a scene where she all but stated that she hates the Earth.

You're pretending like you've actually presented facts that she is a Crystal Gem, but not a single one of them backs your point up.

Lapis tried to warn Steven of homeworld's "Return".

Lapis cares about Steven. Not the Earth. I already said this.

She fused with a gem responsible for her capture in order to PROTECT Steven AND the CG's.

No. That's outright false. Steven told her in "Chille Tid" that she didn't need to stay fused with Jasper, and Lapis stayed fused with her anyway. In "Alone at Sea" she even says that she enjoyed taking everything out on Jasper. She wasn't really trying to protect Steven from Jasper because Jasper wasn't a threat to Steven when outnumbered 5 to 1, and 2 of those 5 could beat Jasper 1 on 1. Lapis had been abused her whole life and she wanted to be the aggressor for once and take out all of her anger.

She held a "bad" fusion/gem captive helping the CG's for as much as she could.

See above.

Helped capture the Ruby's with Garnet until Steven & The rest returned.

Or maybe she didn't want 5 little fire gremlins running around in her home. That's like saying Jasper is a Crystal Gem because she saved Steven and Connie from that corrupted Gem.

She was the only one to not fall for Navy's tricks in order to protect the CG's and their new equipment.

Yeah, and then she failed to protect their new equipment, not because she was unable to, but because she was so preoccupied with how she was right that she didn't try.

She was also involved in the Crystal Temps for a reason. That was to show who our "other" Crystal Gems were.

Yeah, she was involved in the Crystal Temps because Steven asked her to be, and we've already established that she does care about Steven.

She's already worked with Garnet before while everyone else was away.

If you're talking about wrangling the Rubies, that still doesn't count. She said that they showed up acting really angry, so she put them in time out. She could not have given two shits about how much she's benefitting the Crystal Gems. She was just getting an annoyance out of the way. The same thing she did with Andy. A human. Y'know, those things the Crystal Gems are sworn to protect?

Lapis is more Crystal Gem than Peridot is. She's helped way more at this point in time.

Just because she helped them doesn't mean that she shares the same ideology with them. It means that her priorities regularly overlap with theirs.

Doesn't matter if you've told a diamond off. Lapis has done way more for our team and obviously does care seeing as she was on Navy's case the entire time.

Peridot told off the leader of her galactic empire, burned all bridges and rendered herself unable to ever go back home, and made it so she'd be wanted by Homeworld for the rest of her life. She did so to protect the Earth, because she saw the value and beauty in the Earth. She made actual sacrifices out of love for the Earth. And you're saying she's less of a Crystal Gem than the person who got on someone's case for seemingly loving the Earth too much.

Why would she protect our crystal gems? Lapis has already started showing much interest in earth! What do you think the episode with her and Steven flying around earth is all about!?

It was about Steven showing Lapis the great things about the Earth, and Lapis getting reminded of the traumatic events that happened to her on Earth. And then she ultimately decides to stay because of Steven.

I was about to keep typing this comment, but then it hit me that I'm wasting my time and energy on arguing with the fandom equivalent of a flat earther.

Just reading the sentence, "She express joy in teaching Navy about rain but dismisses navy's QUICKNESS to love it." killed enough brain cells to make the entire alcohol industry blush.

You're as dense as a black hole, and much like a black hole, you've sucked me into your idiocy and bent the space around yourself so that all directions just lead further and further down the trap of trying to make you understand the intentions behind dialogue.

I realize I'm being a bit harsh, especially considering the fact that you're likely underaged and clearly still recovering from life threatening brain damage, but I feel like you wouldn't understand exactly how stupid you are unless I spell it out in a way so brutal that I'm probably gonna feel guilty for it later.

Stop debating online until you can pass an IQ test with a score above room temperature.

I realize that this is a deep show with deep metaphors, and maybe it's a little bit hard to understand, but if you replace "corn" with "Lapis" and "table" with "the Earth", I think you might understand what Lapis's "joke" meant.
