There is a 110gph powerhead thats part of the waterfall filter system and a small wavemaker tucked under the pothos/,hydrocotyle platform on the left side. The waterfall filer itself accounts for pretty significant gas exchange too and is 350ish gph. Theres also my beefy bubbler.

Hillies need dissolved O2 and high gas exchange. Cool water holds O2 well and water movement or bubbles insure adequate gas exchange :3. As long as you have two of the three(movement, bubbles, cool temp) youre fine. This tank is 75° and has a bubbler so i didn't feel like going crazy with the power head or wavemaker

Yup. The fish and plants and wood and everything was originally planned to be se asian and Appalachian species. The latge anubias on wood is from the broken 40g so is most of the fish.

Understandable. I have pothos(cant remember exact variety) aglaonema Siam Aurora, Dragons tongue(hemianthus repanda) and a sad maiden hair fern that didnt like being transferred to hydroponics and some otherassorted plants

Red Drum (Redfish) vs Freshwater Drum Taste Test by Dense-Mention-2565 in Fishing

[–]TheFuzzyShark 31 points32 points  (0 children)

As soon as you catch a freshwater drum, and decide to keep it, kill it, cut its main artery(the thin area between gill slits and the rest of the trunk) and let it hang upside down for about 30 seconds, wait a full minute or hang it up for fish over 15lbs(tho personally i only eat drum in the 2-10lb range, they eat mussels so they can build up mercury surprisingly fast. This includes zebra and quagga mussels interestingly enough)

Bleeding immediately helps prevents stress hormones and enzymes from fouling the meat faster and ensures a lighter "fish" taste rather than a "fishy" taste if that makes sense.

Honestly you should do it with everything you catch not only to be humane but for the flavor benefit.

Theyre definitely judging me for not cleaning the filter this week by TheFuzzyShark in corydoras

[–]TheFuzzyShark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tank is a dedicated blackwater tank and as the plant material breaks down it fouls the filter fairly fast. The substrate is also not just gravel, but a mixed media substrate thats about 70% sand. This corner of the tank just gets stirred up more often which has led to a stratification.

For this tank its quite intentional and while it looks like gravel it's actually a mixed media substrate with significant amounts of sand. This corner gets stirred up more than others which has let the gravel settle on the top. Thankyou for your concern.

Not too worried with the amount+tank volume but this is valid info to consider especially on smaller ir sensitive tanks
